P.C.C.M. 74 Offical Post #4

Hello again!

We're continuing the "inbound" portion of our 74th virtual ops series this weekend as cars from John's New York Central Train Layout  and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.  arrive on the Kings Port Division for final delivery to consignees.

Kings Port and West Mill are expecting the arrival of a train from Selkirk with more cars from the N.Y.C.T.L.   In the meantime West Mill's SD9 loads the car float with six coal hoppers from Hudson Coal for the first virtual ops delivery to Port Owen's Power Plant.

The car float will be casting off soon but let's turn our attention to Kings Port where Extra #3003 is now arriving with cars for both Williams Yard and West Mill in the video below. The train is powered by GP40 #3003 and SD35 #6017 still in PRR livery.

Several cars will be set out at the interchange with the Kings Port & Western here.   The train was blocked with cars for the interchange  at the head end. The last car in the cut is this NYC Hi-Cube which is uncoupled from the train.

Watch the cut for the KP&W's Williams Yard get placed on the interchange tracks below.  First the NYC Hi Cube is placed south of Ulster Ave.

The Hi Cube is set aside on the interchange so the Corning covered hopper can be spotted with the two 38 foot hoppers also destined for Corning Glass Co.

You'll see the Corning covered hopper spotted with the two 38 foot coal hoppers in the video below.  The P&E car is set next to the NYC Hi Cube and the gons of scrap and coil cars are separately placed for KP Steel.

The interchange after the set outs.

The Extra's consist prepares to rejoin its train

Watch the GP40/SD35 return to its train and head out of Kings Port in the video below:

An hour later Extra #3003 arrives at West Mill with cars for the KPD.

All cars sent to the KPD from John's and Neal's layouts have now arrived and are ready to be sorted and dispatched to their respective consignees.   The first move was loading the car float with coal hoppers for Port Owen's Power Plant (seen above).  After a half hour river journey the car float has now arrived at Port Owen and is being unloaded by SD9 #6925, sister unit to West Mill's #6922.

Watch the loaded hoppers get set out at the power plant in the video below:

That's plenty of action for today!   Tune in tomorrow for the dispatch of both north and southbound "Turns" from West Mill, and the KP&W's "WiBi" to Binghamton.

P.C.C.M. #74 Official Post #3

Hi all!

Last weekend I focused on outbound trains that took cars from my Kings Port Division to John's  New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.

The most recent post included a description of Extra #1702 picking up a block of cars for the A.P.R.R.   Here is an image from that move in which coal hoppers on Extra 1702 are seen next to the cars set aside for the A.P.R.R., starting with the Jade Green NYC car.

Since I wanted to focus on outgoing cars in that post I did not mention at the time that Extra 1702 also dropped off cars for West Mill.   These cars include two Southern RR bulkhead flatcars with saw log loads for Half Moon Wholesale Lumber which is just south of West Mill, and six loaded coal hoppers for Port Owen's Power Plant.

Here we see coal hoppers for RMO Electric on the A.P.R.R. on the main (background track) next to hoppers that are being cut from Extra 1702 for Port Owen.  Coal is king today!

As the cut of hoppers for Port Own is shoved onto a West Mill siding they are followed by the two bulkhead flats with saw logs.

The Extra's F7A-B-B power backs the cut for West Mill into place while the rest of its train waits on the mainline to continue to Weehawken.

After dropping the cars off Extra 1702 heads out of town with the cut for the A.P.R.R. in tow.  Here is a shot of that action seen in a previous post.   The first car in the cut for the A.P.R.R., Jade Green NYC boxcar #47062 is leaving town!

Not to be confusing, but lets review this train's work a little more by going back in time a couple of hours!   Prior to reaching West Mill, Extra 1702 had arrived at Kings Port (seen below) with its full compliment of coal hoppers for both the A.P.R.R. and for Port Owen, the two bulkhead flats, AND a pair of 38 foot loaded hoppers for Corning Glass Co.

The two shorties were set out on the interchange with the Kings Port & Western.  They will be forwarded to Corning via the KP&W's WiBi transfer to Binghamton later.  In the picture below the cars are pulled beyond the entrance to the interchange for set out.

Watch a video of the set out below.

OK...lets get back to the present time!   Returning to West Mill, the cars that were dropped off by Extra 1702 are now being pulled into the yard.  Coal hoppers for Port Owen's Power Plant....

..and two bulkhead flat cars for Half Moon Wholesale Lumber.

Pulling past the entrance to West Mill Yard by WM Tower

Watch the action as the coal cars are set on Track 3 and the bulkhead flats on Track 2 in the video below:

The cut left for West Mill by Extra 1702 is now in the yard.

The siding that cut was on was cleared in good time to accommodate a Weehawken to Selkirk run (Extra 8038) with cars that were forwarded from the A.P.R.R.'s Rock Ridge Yard.  Stopping at West Mill (located between Weehawken and Selkirk)  the train will drop off more cars for the Kings Port Division.

The cut for West Mill includes three PC RBLs loaded with crates for IBM from Mike's Lumber

Two ribbed KP&W boxcars loaded with food stuffs for Cavendish Foods.

And, two more KP&W boxcars, empty for Zenith TV, represent the end of the West Mill cut from the A.P.R.R..

Some of the cars on this train that will continue to Selkrik and then on to the N.Y.C.T.L. can be see below. That blue Empire Belt car is particularly nice!

The West Mill cut is separated from the rest of Extra 8038.

...and pulled beyond the yard entrance.   We've been here before!

Conferring with WM Tower before entering the yard.

Watch the action as the cut from the A.P.R.R. is moved to the yard entrance:

And then shoved into West Mill Yard in the video below.

After dropping off the West Mill cut Extra 8038's consist returns to the train.

On to Selkirk with cars for the N.Y.C.T.L!

That's enough for today.  See you tomorrow as another train from Selkirk is set to arrive at Kings Port and West Mill.   We'll also follow the car float to Port Owen.

P.C.C.M. 74 Offical post #2

Greetings all!

In the last installment Extra 4362  was dispatched to Terminal Yard on John's  New York Central Train Layout .    This time around we'll focus on cars to be forwarded to Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.

Watch the cut of cars for the A.P.R.R. get pulled from West Mill Yard to be placed on a siding for easy pick up by a Weehawken- bound train in the video below.   Yard crews are multi-tasking as SD9 #6922 works the car float at the same time.

The cut for the A.P.R.R. is in place and waiting for a Selkirk to Weehawken train to make a midway stop at West Mill to pick them up. They will later be forwarded from Weehawekn to Rock Ridge Yard.

While the A.P.R.R. cut waits,  SD9 #6922 completes its work unloading the car float.

A string of empty hoppers from Port Owen's Power Plan is set aside for later pick up by the KP&W.

The last two cars on the float are these PS-2 covered hoppers that were seen heading to Port Owen Brick Company in an earlier post.  A quick turnaround finds them empty at West Mill as an intra-layout move.

They are set aside for a later PC local run from West Mill

About an hour later the expected Selkirk to Weehawken (Extra 1702)  run arrives.  This is not a symbol freight because of some of the cars included on this train such as bulkhead flats with log loads.  Its a long train with slow orders that includes cars for the A.P.R.R. that will be forwarded to Rock Ridge after arriving at Weehawken.  We didn't get to photograph Extra 1702's arrival but a string of coal hoppers for RMO Electric on the train is seen on the mainline behind the cut of cars set out for the A.P.R.R.

Extra 1702 is uncoupled behind the string of hoppers for RMO Electric and pulls forward in a move to pick up the cut from West Mill

Having changed tracks the hoppers back into the A.P.R.R. cut.

After coupling up,  Extra 1702's power pulls the A.P.R.R. cut...

...ending with two 38 foot KP&W hoppers.

The train then backs onto the main, assembling a complete Extra 1702 that will head to Weehawken.

After checking connections and pumping the air, Extra 1702 is cleared for Weehawken.  As the train leaves West Mill we observe the following cars on the cut for the A.P.R.R.:   NYC #47062 loaded with lumber from Half Moon Wholesale Lumber for Mike's Lumber.

50 Foot Hoschton Railway boxcar loaded with packaging materials for Freihoefers from the Canton Box Co..

Penn Central #160502 loaded with IBM business machines for Three Amigos Warehouse.

TPFX #5510 from N.Vancouver loaded with lumber for Mike's Lumber

KP&W hoppers #223 and 224 loaded with coal from the Lehigh Valley coal connection for RMO Electric.

That concludes the Kings Port Division's outbound moves for this series!    Stay tuned next week as traffic from John's and Neal's layouts will provide West Mill and Williams Yard with plenty to do!   While it looks busy in the HO scale Penn Central world, John noted in his blog that today is the 50th anniversary of the declaration of bankruptcy by the railroad, creating the largest business failure at that time.   The Penn Central continued to operate until the start of Conrail in 1976...but on the Kings Port Division the PC will always continue to be a going concern!
