P.C.C.M. 48F: Arriving at West Mill

Hello all!

We're back with another multi layout Penn Central Car Movement series.  This one started with John B. ,....

and Brian....

...both sending cars from the west toward John R.'s New York Central Train layout.

John R. will pick up the action at the end of the series as all manner of cars head toward his layout's Terminal Yard from John, Brian...

...and Neal:

...and from me as well!

My first installment of this series features the train Neal dispatched from his Atlantic Pacific Rock Ridge Yard to Weehawken where a PC power change occurred.   The train is seen arriving at West Mill at 06:30 with two locos running "elephant style".

The train can be see behind the tops of cars at West Mill Yard

Some of the rolling stock noted include Penn Central covered hoppers

An eye catching Morton Salt car

Two Kings Port & Western boxcars which will be cut here at West Mill

The caboose comes into view as the train stops at West Mill.

The first order of business is to pull the two set outs; the KP&W boxcars.   Yard switcher SD9 #6925 gets the call.

Pulling the caboose and other cars in front of the two set outs.

Got 'em!

Shoving the cars past their former train....

The two cars are placed on one of West Mill's yard tracks.  A KP&W coal train is seen in the distance waiting at the junction for permission to proceed into West Mill.

West Mill has a block of cars to add to this train which will eventually be forwarded to the L.I.R.R.  These include P&LE #35892...

...which was loaded with cartons for Sunshine Biscuits at Canton Box

P&E #3638

Loaded with Cavendish packaged meals for Pilgrim State Hospital

Three 38 foot hoppers

Loaded with Hedberg aggregate for the New York State DOT #10 highway project

PC 229046 and EL 73510

Loaded with Blue Ribbon cake mixes for Pilgrim State Hospital

and Peerless kitchen appliances for Friendly Frost in Westbury.

The end of the block consists of three NYC double door 50 footers

...Loaded with TVs for B.Gertz Warehouse in Jamaica.

SD9 #6925 couples onto one of the NYC cars and takes the cut out to the train.

That's it for now!  Next post will feature the dispatch of this train to Selkirk where it will be forwarded to Terminal Yard...along with a Special Extra second train with unusual loads.  Stay tuned!

I must say, the coverage of this move is very nostalgic, with great memories of industries and retailers of the past. Thanks for the memories!

    Elkhart out.

Nice work setting out and adding cars for the train to Terminal Yard. Is SD9 #6925 a new roster addition? I like the paint scheme it's wearing. Nice segment with lots of layout and roster shots.

    1. Thanks Brian! SD9 #6925 has made appearances in the past but alternates with its sister unit #6922. Its an Athearn shell over a PK2 chassis.

Nice work Ralph! The West Mill and Williams Yard crews were quite busy. Love the scenes at West Mill and surrounding areas. Looking forward to P.C.C.M. 48G!
