P.C.C.M. 51B part 3: The KP&W wraps it up again.

Hey folks,

The only cars remaining to be delivered to consignees right now are four for ACME Auto Parts near the Kings Port & Western's Mayfield Yard.

KP&W F7As #175 and 110 approach West Mill with a caboose hop from Williams Yard.   These units will be going to Mayfield Yard as support power.  They'll hook up with The Mayfield Transfer run out of West Mill...

...lashing up with the F7A and GP9 that came in the other day.

As the four KP&W locos couple up and position themselves to head to Mayfield Yard...

...the switcher pulls the cars for the transfer run.

Cars for ACME Auto Pats include the venerable Pacemaker loaded with steel wool for muffler mesh and three 60 foot empty auto parts cars.   Two can be seen behind the old special NYC boxcar.

The third 60 footer is also an NYC unit, followed by some LV cars that convey the KP&W's connection with the Lehigh Valley at Mayfield.

The switcher pulls the cut out of the yard., passing in front of the caboose brought by the F7As.

Now rolling behind the caboose, the switcher shoves the cut onto the main where it will be coupled to the KP&W quartet ready to take the Mayfield Branch.

The caboose is tacked on back to complete the train.

Running as Extra #175 the train slowly heads out and takes the Mayfield Branch.

The train arrives at Mayfield Yard later that afternoon.

Some loaded coal hoppers that will work their way down to West Mill's carfloat are seen in the foreground.

The next morning the first train out of Mayfield is this local setting the four cars out at ACME Auto Parts.

These empty 60 footers will be loaded for Ford but ACME is also known to do business with Plymouth and is a chief supplier of parts for the Roadrunner!

That concludes the Kings Port Division's part in P.C.C.M. #51.  Thanks for following along!

P.C.C.M. 51B part 2

Greetings P.C.C.M. fans!

After trains from Selkirk and Salamanca arrived at West Mill cars are being delivered to their consignees.  Today a local out of West Mill Yard performs two deliveries.

GP9 #7085 is fired up for a short local to set out cars at nearby Canton Box Company and Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

No frills transfer caboose #18025 will house the conductor for this short trip

The freshly washed Geep still in PRR livery backs into the yard to pick up its three car train.

The first car is a Hoschton Railway boxcar, empty for Canton Box.

The other two are B&M RBLs loaded with refreshing Heilemans beer for Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

The local pulls out of West Mill Yard

Canton Box is just outside of the yard and an easy trailing switch shove.

The local continues to Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

The spur serving Reynolds is shared by the local team track where an old Early Bird Service car from Prestige Gear is quickly being unloaded by employees of LaRoche Cycle.

The rental truck used by LaRoche Cycle leaves the team track just in time for the Early Bird car to be pulled.

Meanwhile our old friends the Kings Port Railfan society are gathered at Ulster Ave to catch the action.  Looks like Officer Dibble dos not approve of the guys parking their car in front of the cross buck

The two B&M cars are cut from the caboose which is conveniently placed for the crewman to walk over to the Early Bird.

"Move that car!" insists Officer Dibble as TC, Chooch, Easy, and Benny try to get some pics of the switching move.

The B&M cars push the Early Bird farther down the spur to pick up a P&LE car that was unloaded at Reynolds yesterday.

As the cars are pulled off the spur the guys are missing it all while trying to justify their poor parking choice.

The pick-ups from Reynolds and the team track are coupled to the caboose...

...and the B&M cars are set out at Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

Now that the Kings Port Railfan Society's VW bug is parked more appropriately in front of Dave's Diner (Dave will be keeping an eye to see if they plan to come in and buy something) GP9 #7085 runs in reverse back to West Mill.

The conductor stands on the back porch to protect the reverse running

The short train arrives at West Mill

"How was the run?"         "Piece of cake!"

The pick ups are set out at West Mill Yard.

That's a wrap for today.  The KP&W will move cars to ACME Auto Parts next.
Thanks for taking a look!

P.C.C.M. #51B: Arriving at Kings Port.

Hello again!

Here is a quick follow up to the landmark 50th virtual ops series.  In P.C.C.M. #51A John R. of the New York Central Train Layout dispatched train SLX-1which will stop at Selkirk, Detroit and Avon Yards to return cars to the four layouts that participated in the last series.

Check it out here:  Dispatch of SLX-1

After the train arrived at Selkirk blocks of cars for West Mill and Rock Ridge were cut, sorted, and added to VW-3 to Weehawken with further connections to Rock Ridge.

The next day VW-3 is seen at Kings Port emerging near the northern yard limits of the Kings Port & Western's Williams Yard.  Power today is a pair of GP38-2s.

The first car is the always impressive 86 foot NYC auto parts car currently consigned to Ideal Auto Parts.  It will be forwarded by the Atlantic Pacific RR at Rock Ridge...

...followed by a pair of TOFCs which will be set out at the Williams Yard TOFC track.

These two B&M RBLs are loaded with Heilemans beer for Reynolds Beverage Distributors

Three 60 foot auto parts cars, empty for ACME Auto Parts in Mayfield, will be forwarded by the KP&W.

As the third 50 footer, a PC/TOC car, rolls over the grade crossing we get a good look at an old survivor still in service.  The former Pacemaker is loaded with steel wool mesh for mufflers at ACME.

The train stops and a crewman comes out to protect the crossing.

The train is cut behind the TOCFs so they can be set out at Williams Yard.

The KP towerman performs a visual inspection of the 86 footer that had a coupler problem at Terminal Yard.  As John R. noted in his blog post these big cars were known for couplers over riding each other, causing damage.   The replacement coupler installed at Terminal Yard is looking good.

The cars are set out at Williams Yard for the KP&W to handle.

The Twin Geeps return to the rest of the train.

One more coupler inspection before heading out.

VW-3 continues to West Mill.

...and is later seen passing the abandoned West Mill Station.  The train is slowing down to a stop to set out a block of cars here.

The brand new PC auto parts car and the road weary Pacemaker make a poignant contrast in Penn Central railroading.

As VW-3 comes to a stop it meets KP&W Extra 160 from Salamanca which has been holding there for the Penn Central train to finish its work at West Mill before setting out its own cars in the yard.

Everything behind the NYC 86 footer will be set out at West Mill.

West Mill yard loco SD9 # 6925 takes on the task of pulling the West Mill block off of VW-3...

...and shoving it into the yard.

Once that job is completed #6925 grabs a cut of cars for Weehawken and Rock Ridge to be tacked onto VW-3

These include two new cars in the virtual ops, KP&W boxcars #30112 and #30116, provided by Neal and painted by the KP&W shops at Williams Yard.!

The entire block for Weehawken/Rock Ridge is seen here.

The engineer in the SD9 notches up the throttle and pulls the cut out of the yard.

and shoves it toward VW-3

After being coupled up at the back end of the NYC 86 footer the train is assembled and ready for clearance to Weehawken.

Getting the green, the train proceeds.

Conductors exchange a friendly wave as the PC bay window caboose still in its old NYC livery passes a KP&W caboose with a high vision cupola.

Extra #160 finally gets the go ahead to enter West Mill Yard.  Much like the Penn Central the KP&W often employs mixed consists.  An F7A/ GP9 lashup powers this freight.

Backing the train into West Mill Yard.

Included in the cars from Salamanca is this orange "Crossroads to the South" Hoschton Railway Company car #521 which we continue to run in the virtual ops in honor of our late friend Engineer Ed.

Blocks of cars to be delivered by the PC and KP&W

Extra #160's crew ties up their locomotives at West Mill.

That's it for now!
