P.C.C.M. 61: 4th KPD installment. Trains arrive with virtual ops cars.

Hi gang!

Last weekend's posts about our 61st virtual ops series were focused on sending cars out to each other's layouts.  Now its time to show those trains coming onto our layouts with virtual ops cars to deliver to their consignees.

This is an active series and the Kings Port Division will be receiving cars from three other layouts.

The first to be featured are from John's New York Central Train Layout.  He dispatched train LI-1 to Selkirk with cars for both West Mill and Williams Yard on my layout.  Selkirk broke up the train and is sending two Extras southbound, one for Williams Yard and one for West Mill. The West Mill train leaves first.

Headed by a funky Penn Central mix of an U33C/ F7A consist the train is seen crossing the bridge at Kings Port in the video below:

Extra 6554 later arrives at West Mill.

Cars for destinations served by the KP&W:  Van Winkle Canning and Cavendish Foods...

Peerless Appliance and....

...ACME Auto Parts.

The hoppers are "non-virtual ops cars"  to add length to the train!

Extra 6554 enters West Mill Yard, passing EMD and Alco power.

The Extra ties up at West Mill next to two KP&W trains preparing to leave.

The second train dispatched from Selkirk (Extra 8046) about a half hour later, is seen arriving at King Port where it will back into the Kings Port & Western's Williams Yard to interchange with the KP&W.   Extra 8046 is powered by a pleasingly symmetrical GP38-2/F7B/F7B/GP38-2 lashup.

The tail end of the train consists of three TOFC that will be off-loaded at Williams Yard...That E.B.R.R. trailer sure is a nice looking!

A PC depressed well flat car holds an EMD prime mover for a bad ordered locomotive at the Williams Yard engine facility in Kings Port. The PS-2 covered hopper is filled with locomotive sand for the same facility.

Evans Bread Box Trough steel coil cars are often seen in moves at Kings Port for KP Steel.

A pair of corrugated PC gons loaded with scrap metal for KP Steel

A TDLX Cargill car loaded with whole wheat flour for Blue Ribbon Flour and a GM&O red boxcar loaded with steel wool products for Battaglia Bos Warehouse.

A crewman throws the switch so the train can back into Williams Yard as the Towerman from KP Tower observes in the background.

Watch Extra #8046 back into the yard in this video.

The train backs into Williams Yard.

The caboose and the TOFCs arrive first.

....followed by other rolling stock on the train.

Extra #8046 is now set out at Williams Yard and will soon be broken down for locals to deliver the cars to their final destinations.

That's it for now but stay tuned as cars from the A.P.R.R. and R.C.R arrive at West Mill.

P.C.C.M. 61: 3rd KPD Installment. WV-2 picks up cars at West Mill for Selkirk

Greetings P.C.C.M. followers!

We're continuing the first weekend installments of our 61st "virtual ops" series, sending cars to each others' layouts for model railroad operations.

In the last post we left West Mill with a long cut of cars waiting to be picked up by a daily Weehawken to Selkirk transfer (WV-2).   Just to the right we can see the tail end of a Kings Port & Western empty coal train about to leave West Mill marked by the blue and orange caboose.

Three hours after the newly assembled train is set on the ready track a red signal indicates the arrival of WV-2 from Weehawken.

Powered by a trio of GP38-2s, the combined 6000 horse power EMDs rumble into town and run along the yard.

"Non-virtual ops cars" make up the train.

The three unit consist slows to a stop near the front end of the cut to pick up for Selkirk and is uncoupled from the train.

Rolling past WM Tower to access the yard entrance...

...and backing into the cut of cars headed by one of the 38 foot hoppers that was unloaded at KP Steel.

Watch the GP38-2s pull the cut in the video below.

After several minutes the tail end of WV-2, now a much longer train, is seen ducking into the GERN Industries underpass.

The train is later seen meeting a KP&W freight from Williams Yard near Kings Port in the video below.

That's it for this weekend.  Stay tuned as cars arrive on the King Port Division next weekend from the N.Y.C.T.L.the A.P.R.R. and the Ralston Creek R.R.

Cars are assembled for Train WV-2 to pick up for Selkirk and beyond.

Hello there!

After getting all of the intra-layout moves taken care of in advance of P.C.C.M. #61 in my previous post, its time to gather cars headed for Terminal Yard on John 's New York Central Train Layout, and those going toward Elkart for eventual forwarding to Brian's Ralston Creek Railroad.   While there is no traffic heading to Neal's A.P.R.R. from the Kings Port Division this time we are expecting cars from his Rock Ridge Yard to be forwarded to West Mill later in this series.

Keep an eye on John's, Brian's and Neal's blogs for additional P.C.C.M. 61 action!
 John's
Brian's
Neal's

Freight cars destined for John's N.Y.C.T.L. this time include:

Six empty coal hoppers and two empty 38 foot hoppers from KP Steel seen being pulled by the KP&W

The cars are set out at West Mill by a KP&W Transfer Run.

Hoschton Railway Co. boxcar #954367 is pulled from Reynolds Beverage Distributors to be sent empty to Terminal Yard.   Green door NYC Early Bird #90718 behind it is loaded with bagged cement from Booms Ready Mix for Neal's Lumber and Hardware.

The two cars are later seen at West Mill Yard waiting to be included on a train to Selkirk and beyond.

PC boxcar #104478 is pulled from GERN Industries loaded with cement flux for Lombo Concrete. The GERN covered hopper behind it is going to the Colorado GERN Distribution Facility (Brian's layout).

They can be seen below at West Mill

PC 50 ft. boxcar #360063 is pulled from Blue Ribbon Flour with a load of cake mixes for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse.

The car joins others at West Mill for future assembly into a train for Terminal Yard.

P&LE drop end gon # 40331 was loaded with long telephone poles at Bell Pole and Lumber across the tracks from AGWAY for a NY State highway project.  The car will be interchanged with the LIRR on John's layout.

The gon with two flat car spacers to accommodate the extra long load is set out at West Mill.

Other cars to be sent toward Elkart from Selkirk (for Brian) include this pair of PC covered hoppers loaded with used wort from Cavendish Foods that will be used as cattle feed at the Denver Stock Yards...

...these GT and CN boxcars.

...and the GERN covered hopper seen earlier being pulled from West Mill's GERN facility.

West Mill's yard switcher assembles a long cut of cars for WV-2 (Weehawken to Selkirk) to pick up.   First up is the block for Elkart

The cars are set out on the ready track for easy pick up.

The next block is composed of cars that will be forwarded to the LIRR after arriving at Terminal Yard on the N.Y.C.T.L., the PC boxcar of bagged GERN Cement Flux for Lombo Concrete...

and a load of poles for the NYS DOT Region #10 highway project.

The second block is coupled onto the first.

The third block is composed of cars for industries served on the N.Y.C.T.L. ...

...and is added to the growing cut for WV-2

Finally, the string of hoppers pulled from KP Steel is added to the cut for Selkirk.  The GT boxcar in the background is at the end of the long cut scheduled to head north.

The hoppers join it and the other cars for Selkirk...

...in a line of cars that stretches the length of West Mill Yard.

That's enough for now but the next installment tomorrow will feature the arrival of WV-2 to pick up this long cut to forward the cars to Terminal Yard and Elkart.  Thanks for following along!
