P.C.C.M. 83: Part 4 on the KPD

 Hello everyone!

We are now starting the "inbound" posts of this 83rd virtual ops series between John's New York Central Train Layout, Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R., and my own Kings Port Division.  Trains dispatched from John's and Neal's layouts are now arriving on mine.

Cars on train RW-1 originating at Neal's Rock Ridge Yard were forwarded by the Penn Central at Weehawken to West Mill.  Watch them arrive on Extra #8150 in the video below.

The train backs into West Mill Yard with Corning NAHX #90404 loaded with silica sand for Corning Glass Co. and LV #8247 that is heading back empty to Flint, MI.

The EL boxcar and the two KP&W ribbed boxcars (#644450 and 644455) are headed to Cavendish Foods in Mayfield...
KP&W #30112 &30115 are empty for Quality Fabrications in Bloomberg...

KP&W hoppers #233 &234 are empty for the LV coal connection..

..the HRC 40 footer loaded with C&P restaurant supplies is going to Battaglia's warehouse while LV #7120 is returning empty to Frontier Yard in Buffalo, NY.

Neal's contribution to the KPD's car forwarding is now resting in West Mill Yard.

Meanwhile over at Kings Port,  PC Train SK-7 originating from John's Terminal Yard is arriving.

SK-7 includes a short block of cars for the Kings Port & Western to add to their next WiBi (Williams Yard to Binghamton transfer run.  These include:

Empire Belt #360279 loaded with copy machine components for IBM, RI #35062 loaded with bulk hardware for IBM,  and LV NIRX  #41000 heading  back home empty.

The block is cut from the train and set out on the interchange with the KP&W

The crew of the GP30s in the helper pocket observe the action from their cab window.

After the cut for the KP&W has been set out, SK-7 continues its journey toward West Mill.

One final stop before arriving at West Mill Yard; a pair of empty Gulf tankers is set out at the GULF facility on the river.

SK-7 soon makes its appearance at West Mill.

A third-trick transfer from Williams Yard brought additional cars into West Mill last night.  These included PC depressed center well flat #766053  that previously carried the EMD prime mover that was installed in GP9 #761.   Its seen below being towed out of the Kings Port engine shop by the re-powered Geep before it was sent to West Mill.

Three B&M RBLs loaded with TV cabinets for Zenith were forwarded last night by Williams Yard for the next Bloomberg Run out of West Mill.

PC gon #288673 was sent over from Williams Yard for the next Mayfield transfer.  The car is going to Amalgamated Container as an intra-layout move.

Now that all of the inbound cars have arrived its time for the West Mill crew to sort them into various trains for their final delivery.

The first move is to place the two PS2 cars on the car float for the trip to the Port Owen Brick Co.

In another local move the Cargill covered hopper and its non-player PC companion were delivered to Empire Grain.  This is another intra-layout move

The two LV cars and the Corning covered hopper are going to be picked up by the next KP&W WiBi.

Yard switcher #8951 takes them out.

Watch SW9 #8951 place the cars for the WiBi to pick up.

Meanwhile over at Williams Yard the Wibi has been assembled to include the three cars that SK-7 dropped off at the Kings Port interchange.

The usual KP&W F7A set takes the point.  The WiBi will get clearance to proceed to West Mill momentarily.

While we wait for the WiBi, lets take a look at some of the cars in West Mill Yard that haven't been added to trains yet.    BAR #5226 is heading back to Maine on the next train north to Selkirk as an intra-layout move setting up car forwarding for P.C.C.M. 84.

This NYC double door car arrived empty at West Mill the other day  on the car float from Port Owen Brick Co.  It will head south to Half Moon Wholesale Lumber distributors on a local southbound run as an intra-layout move with some "non-player cars".

The black 40 foot Hoschton boxcar that arrived from Neal's layout has been set aside for inclusion in a northbound Kings Port Turn.  Its full of C&P restaurant supplies for Battaglia's Warehouse.   The HRC car is the only one scheduled by our Rail Traffic Management Form to head out as part of a Kings Port Turn so it will be joined by some "non-player cars" later.

The rest of the cars at West Mill have been assembled into trains.  The Penn Central's Transfer to the KP&W's Mayfield Yard is about ready to go but needs to wait for the WiBi to arrive and leave prior to backing out of the yard.  The Mayfield Transfer gets an appropriate  caboose staffed by an irascible Fingers O'Malley, conductor of the day.

Power for the Mayfield Transfer is a GP9/GP7 set, now coupled up and idling.

Watch the WiBi arrive at West Mill and pick up the cars set out by #8951 in the video below:

The twin F Units are uncoupled from their train and prepare to make the pick up.

Watch the action in the video below:

Once the pick up is completed the WiBi requests and receives clearance to proceed to Binghamton. The Mayfield Transfer wastes no time backing out of West Mill while the WiBi departs.

That's plenty for now!  We'll take a closer look at the manifest of the Mayfield Transfer and the WiBi and follow the disposition of  their cars in the next installment.

A fine opening to inbound weekend! Plenty of railroad action to see and enjoy. I really liked the SK-7 consist 😉 and the WIBI F7 power is always a favorite. The GP9-GP7 combo on the Mayfield Transfer is another favorite and I was happy to see Fingers O'Malley get called for the job. The photo from the KP&W engine terminal is a well composed scene and always makes me smile. The video of 8951 pulling the three cars was one of my favorites this round. The WIBI sure had a showcase of LV boxcars! Well Done Ralph!!!

That is some great inbound action! It’s always interesting to see the mix of motive power you assemble for each train, especially the Geep and F units on SK-7. I enjoyed watching the WiBi move the KP&W “F” units made in the yard to pick up the freight cars and hook up to the rest of the train. Of course, I always like the car float action. It really brings in the action happening on the railroad.
