Greetings all!
Welcome to the final installment of this 93rd "virtual ops", our Penn Central Car Movements in which freight cars from John's New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. that arrived on my Kings Port Division are forwarded to various businesses.
Lets turn our attention back to West Mill Yard where a Southbound Local is being prepared. The train will consist of two Southern R.R. bulkhead flats loaded with saw logs from Jackson Lumber in Lawrence , MA for Half Moon Whole Sale Lumber Distributors....
...along with a couple of nonplayer cars for Half Moon that will safely separate the lumber loads from the locomotives...
...and six empty two bay cement hoppers for Tri Mount Cement.
Switcher #8951 tacks on a transfer caboose manned by the ever cantankerous Fingers O'Malley.
The train will be powered by a GP9/GP7 consist

The Penn Central engineer pulls up to WM Tower to get orders. While he is reading them over in the cab his fireman looks at the billboard above them and comments, "The Mets are lookin' good this year!" Everyone seems to be a fan this season! Well...almost everyone as the engineer replies, "I don't follow baseball but I DO like a cold Schaefer or two!" Can't argue with that!

The local arrives at Tri Mount Cement and drops off the six empty 2 bay hoppers. You can see the cars coming in on the right.
After the set out at Tri Mount Cement the local proceeds to Half Moon Wholesale Lumber Distributors where it sets out the two bulkhead flats of saw logs and the nonplayer boxcars.
After setting out their entire manifest the Geeps will return light to West Mill with their transfer caboose. Meanwhile, back at West Mill the always active #8951 grabs TP&W boxcar #627 to deliver it to Canton Box Co. just outside the yard. This in an intra-layout move.
Watch as the switcher stops to wait for the returning Geeps on the Southbound Local before delivering the TP&W car at Canton Box Company in the video below:
The last work to be completed for this series on the Kings Port Division is the dispatch of a Northbound Local that will take cars as far as Kings Port.
P&LE #35692 is empty for Blue Ribbon Flour in Kings Port, an intra-layout move this time around. The red G&MO #21129 is loaded with empty 55 gallon drums for the Gulf facility from Terminal Yard's Engine Shops. The Southbound Local's engineer would appreciate that BAR #5226 is loaded with Schaefer beer for Reynolds Beverage Distributors.
NYC Early Bird #90718 is carrying steel wool for Booms Ready Mix from Walsh Steel Wool. The APRR hopper #9416 is empty for Hedberg Aggregates.
The yard's pair of RSD12s is the usual power for Northbound Locals.
Switcher #8951 brings a caboose to "cap" the short string of cars.
The cabin crew boards former PRR NC5 caboose #23155...
...while the crew at the head end occupies Alco RSD12 #6869.
The Northbound Local receives permission to leave West Mill Yard and take the main. Watch the train depart in the video below:
The Northbound Local reaches Reynolds Beverage Distributors and Booms Ready Mix...
...and efficiently drops off NYC Early Bird #90718 at Booms Ready Mix, and BAR #5226 at Reynolds Beverage Distributors just beyond the Team Track..
The Northbound Local's next stop is at the end of their territory in Kings Port where they leave P&LE #35892 empty for Blue Ribbon Flour on the PC/KP&W interchange track. This is an intra-layout move.
After what remains of the Northbound local leaves Kings Port...
...KP&W S-12 #34 comes out of Williams Yard with PC #160502 from Three Amigos Warehouse and a black 40 ft. Hoschton Railway car from C&P Restaurant Supply. Both cars will be spotted at Battaglia Brothers Warehouse.
The KP&W S-12 grabs the P&LE car for Blue Ribbon Flour and shoves the short string back int the industry switch lead.
The P&LE car is set out at the lower level dock for Blue Ribbon Flour...
...and the PC and HRC cars are run through the subterranean tunnel access to the lower level dock at Battaglia Brothers Warehouse.
While the KP&W takes responsibility for these deliveries the Northbound Local makes its way back toward West Mill. It had to pass by Hedberg Aggregates on the way to Kings Port but is now oriented to access the trailing siding where it will drop off empty hopper APRR #9416.
Before setting out the APRR car, a loaded PRR hopper is pulled from the siding.
It is added to the Local and then APRR #9416 is set out before the train continues on its way.
The Northbound Local's last stop before returning to West Mill is the Gulf facility along the Hudson River near Lower Kings Port. It will set out the red G&MO boxcar #21129 loaded with empty 55 gallon drums from Terminal Yard's Engine Shops. The Local will also pick up the string of tankers waiting at the loading rack as a nonplayer move.
The Local's Alcos pull the tankers from the Gulf track and set them aside before delivering the G&MO boxcar.
The G&MO car is the last delivery for this PCCM series. Watch the Northbound Local return to West Mil Yard with its "nonplayer" pickups to finish things off where it all started!
Hmmmmm...our recent emphasis on safety regs has me thinking that the West Mill Yard Office should have anticipated that the Northbound Local would be returning with loaded tankers needing a buffer car behind the locomotives! Someone's gonna hear about that! But for now we'll consider it a "teachable moment!" :)
Hopefully next time the crew will check their Pocket Manual! Page 13 on hazardous materials!
