PCCM 93: Part 2 on the KPD

 Hello again!

Continuing our 93rd Penn Central Car Movement series of virtual ops with John's New York central Train Layout, Neal's Atlantic Pacific .R.R., and my own Kings Port Division, we're at West Mill Yard where a cut of cars has been set out on a siding for a soon-to- arrive VW-1 from Selkirk to pick up to take to Weehawken.

While we wait for VW-1 let's turn our attention to the car float from Port Owen that has just been secured at the float apron. Its carrying virtual ops cars EL #73510 and NYC #47062, both loaded with bricks from Port Owen Brick Co.   The NYC car is for Neal's Lumber and Hardware on the N.Y.C.T.L. while the EL load is for Gotham Builders Supply.

The float also carries some empty non-player hoppers from the Con Ed Power Plant at Port Owen.
SD9 #6922 assumes its usual duty working the float, carefully pulling cars from each side to maintain the barge's balance.

Watch the cars from the car float get shoved onto a track in West Mill Yard while VW-1 arrives in the background in the video below:

Train VW-1's  UC33/ UC28 consist picks up the cut of cars left for them at West Mill before proceeding to Weehawken.  Thanks to the varied car forwarding cycles of our Rail Traffic Management Form the two orange KP&W boxcars are the only outbounds for Neal's APRR from the Kings Port Division in this series!  Watch the action in the video below:

The cars remaining at West Mill are either destined for Terminal Yard on John's N.Y.C.T.L. or will be assigned to local trains to complete intra-layout moves.   The crew in SW9 #8951 gets things organized.

While yard work occurs at West Mill the KP&W is busy setting out cars on the interchange with the Penn Central at Kings Port.   These cars will be heading to Selkirk on the next northbound dispatched from West Mill.  As they cross Ulster Ave. we see KP&W gon #2140 and MCRR #350623 getting the shove to KP Steel as an intra-layout move.

Two cars from Blue Ribbon Flour are next.  PC #229046 is loaded with boxed cake mix for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse on the N.Y.C.T.L. and Cargill TDLX #7241 is loaded with flour for Ronzoni.

KP&W #22 & 24 handle the Williams Yard Local.

The two gons are set out at KP Steel...

..and four loaded steel coil coaches are pulled.   The green cars are for Gervais Pipe and Fittings while the orange colored cars are heading to Ford Motor Co. on the N.Y.C.Y.L.

The KP&W SW9s leave the Cargill hopper, the PC boxcar and the four coil coaches on the interchange.  A Penn Central train from West Mill to Selkirk will be picking them up later today.

Speaking of the train from West Mill to Selkirk, it has been assembled in West Mill Yard and will be designated as WmV-6.   It will be powered by GP30 #2228 and F7B #3442.

Watch WmV-6 depart West Mill and later arrive at Kings Port to pick up the cars set on the interchange by the Kings Port & Western in the video below:

The pick ups are made to expedite blocking for Terminal Yard.   First a pair of green coil coaches for Gervais Pipe and Fittings is added behind the tank cars.

Next PC #229046 for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse and two orange coil coaches for the Ford plant are tacked on behind PC 77047.

Finally the Cargill covered hopper TDLX 7241 is located in front of the Dresser Magcobar car at the rear of the train.   The train then departs for Selkirk.

WmV-6 arrives at Selkirk.

The Dresser Magcobar car is cut for its trip to Chicago where the Southern Pacific will take it to Houston.

That concludes the outbound portion of this series on the KPD.  Check back next weekend to follow the inbound trains from the N.Y.C.T.L. and the APRR!

    Terminal Yard out...

Another fine installment Ralph!!! Nicely videoed and photographed with an easy to follow narrative. I liked both the northbound and southbound manifest trains going about their work to pick up and forward PCCM cars to Rock Ridge and Terminal Yard. I always seeing the action around Kings Port Steel and today's installment offered a lot eye candy with the KP&W Local SW9s working the plant and interchange track. The arrival of the WmV-6 at Selkirk wrapped up your outbound posts very nicely. Terminal Yard is standing by to receive the freight cars from WmV-6!!

    Rock Ridge Yard out!

The APRR crew are standing by at Weehawken to pick up inbound freight from the KPD on train VW-1. The local moves around both West Mill and Kings Port are non-stop. The carefully choreographed moves of the car float make that scene so realistic, you just want to be there (Sir Neal’s favorite railfan spot on the KPD)! The trains arriving at Selkirk with the tower in the background are enjoyable to watch as well. Nice work getting the NYCTL blocked for the Terminal Yard crew so they can turn those inbound trains out efficiently.
