The current situation at West Mill is that the cut of cars for Terminal Yard has been set out and is ready for pick up by PC train WV-2 to Selkirk. It can be seen behind the yard tower.
Meanwhile in the background, a KP&W local from the Mountain Branch (a new development on the Kings Port Division) arrives at West Mill to exchange some cars.
These include a grain car that was unloaded at Agway in Bloomberg. Other industries for the Mountain Branch will be developed for future virtual ops.
The KP&W local has to stop for a red indication...
...because Penn Central freight WV-2 is about to arrive.
Headed by an all-EMD consist passing by the rear of the Terminal Yard cut, the train slows to a stop at West Mill.
The power passes by the head end of the Terminal Yard cut...
...while the rest of the train is still rolling past the rear of the cut.
The three PC units are cut from WV-2...The Terminal Yard cut is in the foreground...
...and head forward to the track switches by WM tower.
Backing up now to pick up the cut.
Coupling with the Terminal Yard cut..
The cut is pulled forward and then backed into the rest of WV-2
The Terminal Yard cut ending with B&M #110 is coupled onto WV-2.
After the air is pumped up and all connections have been checked by the brakeman, WV-2 gets underway. As the train heads out of town, West Mill P.D. make a visit to Sal Monella's Salvage to ask routine questions about a recent homicide in Empire City. There may be a connection as Sal is well known to have ties to organized crime there.
The tail end of WV-2 leaves West Mill Yard
Sal being his usual charming self, takes a work break to jaw at the local LEOs while WV-2 heads north to Selkrik.
That concludes the Kings Port Division's involvement in P.C.C.M. #35. Follow the rest of the action on John's New York Central Train Layout Blog when it arrives there!
Meanwhile the KP&W local gets clearance to proceed to West Mil Yard.
Thanks for taking a look!

Rock Ridge Out!
Great story as always! I like the move especially with the local being held giving priority to the departing train. It sounds like the local LEO is in constant contact with Empire City PD.
ReplyDeleteThanks Neal! I like to organize train meets periodically to add interest. Not sure how much Sal is involved in the nefarious events in Empire City but its a "round up the usual suspects" kind of thing.
DeleteNice looking set of EMDs at the head of WV-2. Plus ALCO power for the Mountain Branch. The local railfans will be enjoying the trains today. Your graffiti treatment to the SP car looks really good as well. Maybe the "artist" used some of that Montana Gold paint to make his creation. I hear it's quite popular with the Urban Art community. Organized crime seems to find it's way into the local communities along the right of way. I'm sure the LEO will get things back under control.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian! West Mill is a great place to railfan! I don't have much rolling stock with graffiti since that really wasn't prominent in the Penn Central era. I "tagged" a couple of cars as a concession to visitors who would comment in disbelief about the lack of vandalism on my freight cars. I used a somewhat dried out black marker on the SP car.
DeleteI have about the same amount of urban artistry on my roster. I singled out a SP car and did some scale vandalism. You did a great job on your car. I was guessing it was a decal. It's sad to think that people only remember railroads for the graffiti sprayed on their equipment. Not the classic era with all of the different railroad paint schemes and advertising logos. With a bare minimum of graffiti visible.

Terminal Yard out...
Nice work on getting a very impressive looking WV-2 into the mix! The stop at West Mill for interchange before heading on to Selkirk was very well done! Add in some organized crime activity and a K.P.& W. Alco and this entry was a winner all the way around. I noted the infamous 'Pete The Plumber" has advertised his services right outside Sal's. Talk about being brazen!
ReplyDeleteThanks John! I like the way this worked out with the cars for Terminal Yard being picked up by WV-2 instead of having them set as a train originating from West Mill. I think this will continue to work well in future virtual ops. I'm not sure just what to think of the presence of a "Pete The Plumber" billboard on Sal Monella's property. Seems too coincidental and most likely what promoted the local cops to have a chat with Sal about the Empire City incident.
DeleteWhat a great story and photos. I do like the new local service from the Mountain branch. Should generate some nice revenue going forward. I also ike the mix of cars although I am sorry to see the SP car got tagged. Hopefully that was a one-time crime. I imagine the local PD is busy with the investigation of Sal Monella and his alleged connection to the homicide on the NYCTL turf. Maybe they can call the Feds in now that it crossed state lines. After seeing all the tonnage heading out ultimately terminating at the NYCTL I now understand the reason for the strange call from Sir John earlier today. He sounded quite stressed about the impending arrival of WV-2 and he was anxious to get my help on Monday when WV-2 is scheduled arrive. At first I was hesitant to agree because as everyone knows Mondays are $2 Senior Citizen day at the local Hoschton Movie Theater and this week they are showing the classic JAWS. But clearly I will forego the movie to help Sir John receive WV-2.
ReplyDeleteI think you're doing a great sacrifice for the good of your friend Sir John. Most people would never give up those $2 movie deals at any time, unless there were libations to go along with the work involved. Good luck with WV-2.
DeleteDouble E your generosity is duly noted! Thank you for accepting my call for assistance.
