If you read the two "pre-series" entries for this virtual ops series you will have some idea where all of the freight cars involved in P.C.C.M. 74 came from. Several trains brought in cars to West Mill and the KP&W's Williams Yard that will be forwarded to John's New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.
In anticipation of dispatching a train to the N.Y.C.T.L., West Mill's Yard crew in SW9 #8951 has been hopping! Its worth noting as John did in his blog entry today that today marks the 50th anniversary of the Penn Central being denied a 200 million dollar loan whihc set the stage for its bankruptcy. The guys at West Mill are unaware of this right now
After several moves the completed train is the string on the left.
Watch the SW9's crew assemble the next Train to Selkirk with cars for the N.Y.C.T.L.'s Terminal Yard in the video below:
Power for the run to Selkirk is a "covered wagon" fan lashup of two FP7s and an F7A!
Watch the consist roll out of the engine tracks and couple with the train in the yard in the video below:
After checking connections and pumping up the air the train, now designated as Extra 4362, heads out of West Mill. Watch the action in the video below:
The caboose on that train, PC #22866 was a recent bargain priced gift to myself from M.B. Klein Model Train Stuff online.
Extra 4362 arrives at Kings Port and stops short of the interchange with the Kings Port & Western.
The crew confers to decide how to most efficiently work the interchange that holds several pick ups for this train.
The coil cars and TOFCs are on two tracks south of Ulster Ave...
...while several more cars are to the north of the busy road.
After uncoupling from the train, the three covered wagons approach the switch for the interchange tracks.
The units then push the coil cars across Ulster Ave until they couple up with the string of cars on the north side.
The coil cars and the various cars from the north side are then all pulled out together, passing the TOFCs.
...and are positioned behind the remaining TOFCs.
Lined up for the last pick up.
The three F units shove the long string of cars into the TOFCs, connecting all of cars from the KP&W interchange
Watch as the power runs around the long cut of cars to get to the head end in the video below.
Watch the now fully connected train for the N.Y.C.T.L. leaves Kings Port in the video below:

Rock Ridge Yard Out!
Way to kick off #74 Ralph! That's a sharp looking caboose that you added to the fleet! Your F unit lash up was very impressive. They looked good on the run around as well!
Thanks Neal! I just happened to notice the caboose on the web site and had to buy it considering the great price. Its a nice one. F unit lashups are among my favorites!
DeleteHi Ralph! A very enjoyable ops session! I have a PC FP7 just like the one you have shown here. A good ol' reliable Atlas yellow box unit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robert! I've accumulated three of those FP7s and am very pleased with how well the 30 year old units run! Thanks for taking a look at the Kings Port Division!
