P.C.C.M. 77: Part 4 on the KPD

 Welcome back virtual ops fans!

Last weekend trains were dispatched from my Kings Port Division to John's New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR .  This week trains from their layouts will bring freight cars that need to be forwarded to various industries on mine.

Starting with a train dispatched from John's Terminal Yard as SK-7 to Selkirk...(seen below on John's layout) ...

...the long string of cars was given a new power consist at Selkirk for the trip down the Hudson Valley to West Mill.  We'll see the EMD GP38-2/ GE U33C/U28C lashup arrive at Kings Port to drop off some cars at the interchange there with the Kings Port & Western Railroad before continuing to West Mill.

Ulster Ave. is a great place to railfan as this grade crossing over the Penn Central's River Line is just North of the KP&W's Williams Yard.   Trains from both railroads can be seen here several times a day.

Watch as today a short southbound powered by U30C #6538 takes the hole near Dave's Diner to wait for Extra 8150 from Selkirk to pass.

The crew gets off for lunch knowing that they will have plenty of time to grab some food to go.

Watch as Extra 8150 from Selkirk arrives at Kings Port and slows to a stop to drop off cars:

Extra #8150's cars briefly sit idle next to the southbound in the hole.   The cars pictured on the right are going to be set out on the KP&W interchange for unloading in Williams Yard or to be forwarded to local industries.

The train is cut behind PC 50' plug door boxcar #160502 which will eventually be put on a KP&W "WiBi" to Binghamton for IBM.

Watch as Extra #8150 sets out these cars in the video below:

The cars are set out on the interchange on the left side of the picture.

The three unit consist prepares to return to its train.

Watch as the GP38-2 and the two UBoats couple up with the train and pull it out of Kings Port

PC 6538's crew heads back to the GE unit with their take-out meals.

.Watch this train depart Kings Port with a little bit of wheel slippage.  Must be those Fall leaves Neal mentioned in a previous post! The engineer hits the sander button to get going in the video below:

Extra #8150 arrives at West Mill later that day.

This train will soon be broken up by the yard switching crew and its cars will be assembled into various trains.

Meanwhile, the cut left on the interchange in Kings Port waits for a KP&W locomotive to pull them into Williams Yard.

Stay tuned for tomorrow as the KP&W works the interchange and West Mill receives a train from Weehawken with cars from the A.P.R.R.!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

That’s some heavy motive power in Selkirk. Something about those black U-boats make the train seem massive. Hope the cred from 6538 left the waitress at Dave’s Diner a nice tip! I like the shot of the U-boats pulling out of West Mill with the tower behind it, looking uphill. Add the background you have and it looks like so realistic! Great photo!

  2. Thanks Neal! The big six axle U Boats do convey a sense of mass! I've always liked them. The Bachmann 6552 is the best runner compared to the Athearn BB 6533 and 6538. The PC crews always tip waitress Rosie well at Dave's Diner. Her Dad was an Old Head on the "Central" in the steam era so she is especially attentive with the coffee refills for railroad men.

Acknowledge Extra 8150 from Selkirk dropping cars for KP&W at Kings Port and arriving a West Mill.

    Terminal Yard out...

That was a mighty fine Inbound opening Ralph! I really enjoyed watching 8150 traverse the layout setting out the interchange cars for the KP&W (A nice move you added when defining the PC and KP&W roles) and arriving at West Mill. Videos and photographs capture the scenes perfectly. The wheel slipping 6538 had me thinking about Big Mike and all his comments on the U Boats.😊 Well done!!!
