P.C.C.M. 22

That stands for Penn Central Car Movement #22.  This is the 22nd series of "virtual ops" between my Kings Port Division and John R.'s New York Central Train Layout.  For those unfamiliar with what we're doing, John and I dispatch trains with cars to be delivered and picked up from industries on each others layouts.   We do this "virtually" because we don't actually mail the cars to each other...we represent the movement of cars from one layout to the other by photographing the identical cars we own in common.   For example, John's B&M boxcar #110 is photographed on his train leaving Terminal Yard.  I later photograph my B&M boxcar #110 on a train arriving at West Mill, and so on.  

We've been doing this for a while and have reached the 22nd series of car movements.   We haven't posted about all of them in our respective blogs but this one has been a great read already in John's blog and definitely worth sharing  Check out all of the action on John's side here:

In his last installment of the series, John dispatched Train LS-1 from Terminal Yard To Selkirk.  We often use Selkirk as the location where blocks of cars are cut from John's trains and assembled into a train from there to the Kings Port Division.   This helps explain the difference in motive power on the train since we don't have that many locomotives in common.  In our virtual ops, this time, a block of cars from LS-1 is transferred to Train VW-1 (Selkirk to Weehawken) which will drop them at West Mill Yard along the way.

This installment documents the arrival of VW-1 at West Mill.

PC Train VW-1 (Selkirk to Weehawken) arrives and sets out block of 14 cars (originally from Train LS-1) at mid-division point West Mill.

Penn Central Train VW-1 slows as it emerges from the tunnel north of West Mill.  Headed by a U28C/U33C/GP38-2 consist, the first block immediately behind the power is to be cut for West Mill.   The rest of the train will continue to Weehawken.






These two empty 38 foot hoppers mark the end of the block from Terminal Yard for the Kings Port Division.

Obviously a train continuing on to Weehawken needs to have other cars so these were coupled to the rear of the block for West Mill.






The train stops at West Mill and the block from Terminal Yard is uncoupled  so it can be backed into the yard tracks.   This will be covered in the next installment.

  1. Nope. Maybe it looks different because only one signal is illuminated. I often photograph it with three lights on.

  2. A great treat for all rail fans Ralph! Story line, photography, modeling and layout are all top notch and very enjoyable. Spending time on the Kings Port Division is time well spent!
