We continue the most recent Penn Central Car Movement series by following West Mill yard switcher SD9 #6922 as it pulls sections of the block of cars from Terminal Yard that recently arrived on Train VW-1. These cars will later be forwarded on a Penn Central "Kings Port Turn", a KP&W local to Bloomberg on its Mountain Branch, a KP&W run to its Mayfield Yard, and on a KP&W train to Salamanca, NY.
Before those moves can happen, the cars need to be sorted at West Mill. Fortunately crews at Terminal Yard did an admirable job blocking cars in advance to expedite this process. Nice work guys!
SD9 #6922 is behind the block of cars to be moved into West Mill Yard.
Time to get to work! The SD9 pulls the first cut of cars. These are headed to industries such as Corning Glass and IBM along the KP&W's mainline to Salamanca
A brakeman opens the switch for the cars to back into the yard.
The cut of cars that will head out toward Salamanca via the KP&W.
The next cut is for ACME Auto Parts near the KP&W's Mayfield Yard.
The last car in this string, the Rock Island boxcar, is actually headed to Quality Fabrications, a machine shop on the KP&W's Mountain Branch. It will be sorted later in the yard.
The cut is backed into the yard, next the previous one.
The second cut is set out in the yard with the first one behind it .
A yard crewman confers with the engineer of #6922. One more cut to move.
Heading back to VW-1 to grab the last cut...
Coupling onto the depressed well flat for Sal's Salvage. Cars for a Kings Port Turn follow behind it
Cars for the future Kings Port Turn include two TOFCs that will be set out at the KP&W's Williams Yard. One of these is an excellently rendered Empire Belt R.R. trailer!
Backing the last cut into West Mill Yard. Coil cars for KP Steel..
Cars for Battaglia Bros Warehouse...
..and the TOFCs and the depressed well flat car.
The last cut rolls into West Mill Yard.
West Mill Yard looking pretty full now!
The train gets the green and permission to proceed south.
Next up: Kings Port & Western Railroad action and a through train from Selkirk to Weehawken with cars for the Atlantic Pacific R.R!
I don't know how much you pay Cappy Foster but it probably is not near enough for the work he does. If my guy on the HRC did 1/2 as much work as Cappy I could be living the high life like that Sir Neal fellow.
ReplyDeleteNot to sound repetitive but the level of detail is amazing and the realism is uncanny. the scope of this series is very impressive. Hats off to everyone involved, it is quite enjoyable to follow.
You sure opened a can of worms with the Skillet Lickin Boys. They saw your latest posts with the billboard and are now demanding an immediate meeting with HRC Senior Management to present them with a whole new set of contract demands given their widening appeal!
Thanks Ed! As for the band, once you play West Mill you know you're on your way!

Rock Ridge Yard Out!
Ralph, the build up of the moves makes this 3 layout VO session very exciting. The AP is anxiously awaiting the arrival at Weehawken!!
Ditto on what Ed stated. The detail is top notch! When I grow up, I want to have the detail skills you have!
Thanks Neal! Cars for the APRR are coming soon!

Acknowledge freight car sorting at West Mill and VW-1's on time departure for Weehawken. Nice work by the Cappy and the West Mill crew!
I'll echo Ed's statement about the realism and detail on the K.P.D. being amazing. I've been amazed by it for yeas and continue to marvel at how real it all looks. Great job on the P.C.C.M.in particular and the layout in general.
B.T.W. That E.B.R.R. Trailer looks great on your layout and in train VW-1!
Thank you John! You did a great job on the EBRR trailer! Happy to have it rolling through West Mill!
DeleteOne thing that keeps striking me is how really good vintage equipment looks when well photographed!
ReplyDeleteThanks John! The invention of the digital camera has certainly helped me out!
DeleteAnother great installment of the PCCM. The management of the KP&W should be applauded for running a top notch operation. After EE's band does the Kingsport circuit, he's invited to perform for the Mountain Folk in West Clampet County. I'm sure EE will receive a huge Mountain sized greeting from the local yokels. ðŸ¤
