P.C.C.M. 72: Part 1 on the KPD

Greetings!

We are starting a series of virtual ops between three layouts this time.   John's  New York Central Train Layout  and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.  will be joining my Kings Port Division in the fun.   We're going to be moving a lot of freight this series as the KPD will be sending 27 cars to the N.Y.C.T.L. alone!

With that in mind, lets take a look at what's happening at West Mill Yard.  Things are pretty quiet but its the calm before the storm.

BWM-2, returning from Bloomberg's industrial parks, brings cars to West Mill to be forwarded to the N.Y.C.T.L. and the A.P.R.R.

The train powered by GP20 #2102 and GP30 #2212 stops at a red signal before entering West Mill Yard...

...to wait for KP&W freight BiWi-4 (a transfer from Binghamton to Williams Yard in Kings Port) powered by two F7As.

Watch the train meet between the BWM-2 and BiWi-4 in the video below:

BiWi-4 stops near WM Tower to drop off the front two cars at West Mill.   They include:

...a KP&W boxcar loaded with bulk paper from International Paper for Marcal Paper (served by the A.P.R.R.) and a Corning covered hopper, empty for West Hills Silica Sand Mining (N.Y.C.T.L.)

The cars have been cut from the train and the twin F units shove them back into West Mill

After setting out the boxcar and covered hopper the KP&W consist returns to its train to continue the journey to Williams Yard

After BiWi-4 clears and the red indication holding BWM-2 turns to green, the two Geeps notch up and roll toward the yard entrance.   Watch this action in the video below:

BWM-2 rolls past the yard entrance with....

NYC Pacemaker #174508, empty for an intra-layout move to Amalgamated Container.   The brown 50 foot boxcar NYC #80755 is loaded with machine parts for Reliable Machine...

PC #77047 is loaded with specialty soda from Woodstock Hills Natural Soda for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse.    P&E #3638 is loaded with kitchen gadgets from REVCO for Ralph's as well.

P&LE drop end mill gon  #40331 is loaded with extra long utility poles for LILCO in Babylon NY.  It requires two spacer flat cars for safety.

Once the caboose is forward of the yard entrance a crewman aligns the switch so the train can back into West Mill.

The caboose is cut and then the cars roll in on track #2.

Watch the action in the video below:

After setting out the cars from Bloomberg, the usual power for this run separates from the train...

...picks up the caboose...

...and sets it out on the caboose track before pulling into the engine service track.   The two cars set out by BiWi-4 can be seen in the background

SW9# 8951 gets the call to pull the two cars into the yard.

Things are starting to get busy at West Mill but there's more to come as SD9 #6922 moves out to Empire Grain to bring in NYC covered hopper #892021 loaded with grain for the Ronzoni Co.

#6922 couples up to the car...

...but has to wait for a KP&W transfer from Mayfield.  They'll take a break while Extra #566 pulls into West Mill with several cars for the N.Y.C.T.L. and the A.P.R.R.

The transfer includes NYC 86 ft. auto parts car #67086...

...and three 60 ft cars (KP&W #50035, TOC/PC #350562, and NYC #53051) all loaded with auto parts from ACME for Ford.

Two Hi Cubes loaded with Peerless Appliances.  PC #272242 is headed to Gimbles Warehouse while NYC #173861 is destined for Terminal Warehouse.

PC depressed well flat #766053 is carrying an Amalgamated Container tank for West Chemical while the Morton Salt covered hopper (ACFX #62004) is headed to the Morton facility near Rock Ridge via the A.P.R.R.

Loaded with coal for RMO Electric on the A.P.R.R., two KP&W hoppers #233 &234 follow the Morton Salt car...

..and are followed by LV boxcar #66392 making its first appearance in the virtual ops! The car is loaded with batteries from Presto Lite of Allentown, PA with for Irwin Marine Corp. in Lakeport NH.  It has traveled on the LV and KP&W and will eventually be forwarded to the B&M at Williams Yard.

The train passes the yard entrance and then backs into West Mill.

After shoving the transfer into the yard Extra 566's power moves over a track to couple up with a string of empty hoppers recently pulled from the car float from Port Owen's coal fired power plant.

Now that the Mayfield transfer is out of the way SD9 #6922's crew finishes their break and pulls the NYC covered hopper. Watch the action in the video below:

Just to let you know that three additional cars involved in this series were already at West Mill.

They include TP&W #627 and PC #30063 both from Canton Box Co.  The TP&W car is loaded with shipping boxes for Heileman Brewery on the N.Y.C.T.L. while the PC boxcar has packaging materials for C&P Restaurant Supply on the A.P.R.R.

PC #229046 came in from International Paper the other day loaded with bulk cardboard for Berk enterprises on the N.Y.C.T.L.

West Mill's yard crew has a lot of work to do , so we'll leave them to it and catch up tomorrow as trains are dispatched to the both the N.Y.C.T.L. and A.P.R.R.
