P.C.C.M. 72: Part 2 on the KPD

Hi everyone,

Freight cars were gathered at West Mill yesterday for dispatch on trains today for  John's New York Central Train Layout  and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.

West Mill's crews have been busy sorting the cars into blocks for a train to the N.Y.C.T.L.

Here is half of the block of cars for the N.Y.C.T.L. to forward to "off-layout" destinations, via connections the Long Island RR.  The Corning car is going to West Hills Silica Sand Mining,  the NYC covered hopper is headed to Ronzoni, and the Hi Cube will be going to Gimbles Warehouse.

The rest of the block starts with the depressed well flat loaded with a tank for West Chemical followed by a load of utility poles for LILCO with two spacer flat cars.  (Cars behind this block including the two KP&W coal hoppers are a cut for the A.P.R.R.)

The first half of the next N.Y.C.T.L. block is for the Terminal Yard area and Empire City industries.   The NYC Hi-Cube is for Terminal Yard Warehouse, the P&E and PC boxcars are for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse...

The rest of the block includes a 50 foot NYC boxcar for Reliable Machine while the 50 foot PC boxcar is for Berk Enterprises.

Cars for Bedford Park include four auto parts cars for Ford;  seen below are an 86 foot NYC car with KP&W and TOC/PC 60 footers.

The fourth car for Ford is an NYC 60 foot auto parts car.   The TP&W boxcar behind it is for Heilemann's Brewery.

The unusually heavy traffic in this series prompted Selkirk to send more power down to West Mill.  Watch a surprise F7 A-B-B-A set arrive to power the train for Terminal Yard in the video below:

After coupling up to its cars the A-B-B-A set hauls the train (now designated as Extra #1802) toward Selkirk.

Watch the train leave (with a couple of wheel slips...the Bachmann B units don't seem to have as much pulling power s I expected)) in the video below:

For the record, the manifest on this train is:
NYC 86' #67086
KP&W #50035
TOC/PC # 350562
NYC #53051
TP&W 627
PC #229046
NYC #80755
PC #77047
P&E #3638
NYC #173861
PC #272242
NYC #892021
NAMX #90404 (Corning)
PC #766053,
P&LE #40331 with two flat car spacers.

This actually is the first of two trains that will be going to the N.Y.C.T.L. during this series due to the larger number of cars and the fact that ten of them are on the other side of my layout at Kings Port.  We'll get to that in the next installment

As for now, there are five cars for the A.P.R.R. sitting at West Mill

The Morton Salt car is heading home to its facility near Rock Ridge, PC #30063 is loaded with packaging for C&P Restaurant Supply, the two hoppers are for RMO Electric,, and the KP&W boxcar is loaded with bulk paper from International Paper for Marcal Paper.

The cars are going to be taken to Weehawken on Penn Central train VW-1.   After that they will be forwarded to Rock Ridge Yard.   Switcher #8951 prepares to set them out on a siding next to the main for VW-1 to pick up later today.

Watch the yard switcher set out the A.P.R.R. cut in the video below:

Watch VW-1 arrive to pick up the cut of cars in the video below:

VW-1's power is cut from the train and proceeds to the crossover to the next track to grab the A.P.R.R. cut.

The second unit, GP38 # 7692, couples onto the Morton Salt covered hopper....

and notches up with its FP7 lead unit to pull it forward of the crossover.   The last car of the cut is seen rolling away in the photo below.

Backing up on the main to add the A.P.R.R. cut to VW-1

VW-1 now fully assembled awaits a green board to proceed to Weehawken.

Watch VW-1 leave West Mill with the A.P.R.R. cut in the video below:

That's it for today!  tomorrow the second train for the N.Y.C.T.L. will be dispatched after picking cars up in Kings Port.

    Terminal yard out...

Acknowledge another excellent P.C.C.M. 72 outbound post!!! West Mill continues to excel handling the north and south traffic on the River Line! Photos, descriptions and videos were excellent. The 6922's exhaust was well done! Those slip sliding F7Bs might need more ballast as Big Mike would say. Or just need Big Mike for ballast! Well done Ralph!!!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

The action at West Mill never ceases to amaze me! Traffic moving to both Terminal Yard and Rock Ridge looking good! The call for more motive power just goes to show how West Mill is handling the traffic.
