PCCM 112: Part 4 on the KPD

Welcome back!

We are continuing our 112th Penn Central Car Movement series (PCCM) also known as our "virtual ops" between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own Kings Port Division.

Yesterday four trains dispatched from John's Terminal Yard with several cars for the Kings Port Division arrived at Selkirk while two cars from Neal's APRR were set out at West Mill.

Selkirk is now preparing to dispatch train VW-1 which will make intermediate stops at Kings Port and West Mill to set out PCCM cars for the Kings Port Division.  The train is powered by a mix of GE and EMD locomotives to balance speed with traction.

VW-1 will stop at Kings Port to set out several cars for the KP&W's Williams Yard.  We'll see it arrive at the Ulster Ave grade crossing.

Incidentally, the repair job on the fallen telegraph pole has been completed!

 VW-1 arrives at Kings Port!

The three unit consist pulls the cut to be set out for Williams Yard.

After making the set out at Kings Port the VW-1 receives permission to continue to West Mill where it will set out more PCCM cars.

The VW-1 sets out two covered hoppers for Empire Grain and two APRR RBLs for Zenith TV loaded with cabinets.

After the quick set out the VW-1 resumes its journey to Weehawken.

Its time for the West Mill Yard crew to sort cars into local trains to forward the PCCM cars to their respective consignees, starting with the Bloomberg Turn.   Today's Turn has cars for Zenith TV and Bell Pole.   Sales of console televisions must be up as an unusually high number of cars are heading to Zenith in this series!

Two empty NYC double door boxcars...

Two APPR RBLs loaded with TV cabinets from Empire Millwork

...and two empty  KP&W cars

The remaining car, P&LE empty gondola #40331 is for Bell Pole.

A GP38-2 is usually assigned to the Bloomberg Turn.  Its idling by the crew lounge building waiting for its cars.

The yard's switcher brings the cars up and tacks on a caboose.  We get a good look at the six cars for Zenith TV rolling by.

The Turn heads onto the Mountain Branch to the Catskills.  Shortly after it leaves town the MOW train returns with the cement car they set back on the tracks near Tri Mount Cement. While it can roll its unloading doors have been damaged so the car is being brought back to West Mill.

An hour later the Bloomberg Turn reaches the industrial park in the Catskills where it sets out the six cars for Zenith TV.

After working Zenith TV the Turn sets out the EBRR gon at Bell Pole.

The next job is to set out two covered hoppers at Empire Grain.  Despite its small size this short train is still referred to as  "The Grain Job" by the crew.

The Grain Job heads over to Empire Grain but is interrupted by the arrival of today's BiWi-3 transfer from Binghamton to Williams Yard in Kings Port.  The KP&W train sets out four non-PCCM hoppers to be forwarded by car float to Con Ed at Port Owen.

After the BiWi-3 clears the main the Grain Job finishes exchanging loads for empties and returns to the yard.

The four hoppers that were set out by the BiWi-3 are then retrieved by switcher #8951 and brought into the yard for loading on the car float.

The car float will be loaded tomorrow with the four coal hoppers for Con Ed and the two PS2 hoppers loaded with lime for Port Owen Brick Company that are expected to arrive at West Mill tomorrow.

That's all for today!

    Terminal Yard out...

Ralph, you have finely tuned the PCCM car movements in this virtual op to the point that every train is moving with a plausible and realistic purpose. Both the KP&W and KPD are offering unprecedented customer service by moving the freight safely and reliably. A minor derail? No problem the Big Hook is on the way and the line is cleared quickly. I really enjoyed watching the VW-1 making its move from Selkirk to Weehawken. Nice work on the now you see it now you don't vehicle at Ulster Ave!! Well done!!
