PCCM 112: Part 5 on the KPD

Welcome back!

We are continuing our 112th Penn Central Car Movement series (PCCM) also known as our "virtual ops" between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own Kings Port Division.

Starting at West Mill Yard switcher #8951 sets out a cut of cars to be picked up by the KP&W's WiBi-4 transfer from Williams Yard in Kings Port to Binghamton, NY.  They include six loaded cement hoppers for  Binghamton Precast & Supply and an empty KP&W boxcar for International Paper Co.

Switching over to the KP&W's Williams Yard in Kings Port we're just in time to witness the dispatch of the WiBi-4 with a pair of aging F7As on the point.   The KP&W is muddling by with an almost exclusively First Generation diesel roster.

The Williams Yard entrance Towerman and a colleague perform a roll-by inspection as the WiBi-4 departs for West Mill and Binghamton.

The WiBi-4's F units prepare to set out an empty P&LE gondola for Bell Pole and Lumber and two PS-2 hoppers loaded with lime for Port Owen Brick Co. sent by T&R Gravel.

The three set outs are coupled up to the pick ups....

The KP&W boxcar and the cement cars that were placed on the siding for pick-up are tacked onto the WiBi-4....

The empty gon and the two PS-2s loaded with lime are then left behind on the siding and the F7As return to their train to prepare for departure to Binghamton.

The WiBi-4 receives permission to proceed to Binghamton!

The last job at West Mill for this PCCM series is to load the car float with the four coal hoppers delivered yesterday for Con Ed and the two PS2 hoppers loaded with lime for Port Owen Brick Company that arrived today.  SD9 #6922 takes on the assignment as usual.

The cars are carefully loaded on the car float.

The float prepares to shove off.

After docking at Port Owen later in the afternoon the two PS2s are pulled off the carfloat and delivered to Port Owen Brick Company.

The coal hoppers for Con Ed are on their way for a short trip to the big power plant with the brakeman riding on the rear car.

The next day in Binghamton an EL locomotive from their nearby QD Yard grabs a cut of cars from the KP&W at CS Yard.  Included in the cut for the EL are a KP&W boxcar and LV NIRX # 41000 which are both empty for International Paper Co.  It also picks up LV boxcar #7120 which will be forwarded by the EL to Buffalo.

A little later, the Lehigh Valley Sayre Turn from Sayre, PA arrives at CS Yard to drop off a string of cars and pick up empty LV boxcar #66392 for assignment along with a string of six loaded cement cars from Tri Mount Cement for nearby Binghamton Precast & Supply.

Watch a busy morning of interchange traffic at the KP&W's CS Yard.

The EL later delivered the two boxcars to International Paper Co.

After the interchanges with the EL and LV the KP&W will assemble its own local train to deliver two 86 foot boxcars to ACME Auto Parts.....

....a Swift Reefer loaded with frozen meat for Cavendish Foods...

...and EBRR gondola # 509823 and the Penn Central depressed well flat #766053 both empty for Amalgamated Container Co.

The CS Yard Local heads out to deliver these PCCM cars to their respective consignees

The reefer of frozen food is set out at Cavendish...

...the two 86 foot cars go to ACME Auto Parts....

....and the EBRR gon and the PC depressed well flat go to ACCO.

That's it for today!  We'll wrap up the action in this series tomorrow!

    Terminal Yard out...

Once again a fine showcase of Catskill Mountain railroads interchanging freight with each other and keeping our PCCM and non PCCM traffic moving. The KP&W and its first generation diesels are prototypical, photo friendly and fun to watch as they travel on locals or between cities. The new CS Yard in Bingo is fast becoming a 1:87 and 1:1 railfan haven. great job Ralph!!!
