P.C.C.M. 76: Part 2 on the KPD

Greetings all!

Thanks for following our 76th Penn Central Car Movement (P.C.C.M. ) series of "virtual ops"!

Cars to be forwarded to John's New York Central Train Layout  and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. were gathered at West Mill Yard yesterday and are now ready to be blocked into trains.

West Mill's SW9 #8951, busy as always, is seen assembling a short train for Weehawken with cars that will be forwarded to Neal's A.P.R.R.   Cars in this train include KP&W boxcars 30112 and 30115 loaded with Zenith TVs for Three Amigos Warehouse...

....KP&W ribbed boxcars 644450 and 644455, both loaded with kitchen appliances from Peerless Appliance for Three Amigos Warehouse....

...and three Penn Central RBLs loaded with container board from International Paper for Tropicana

Power for the train to Weehawken is a GP9/GP7 lashup burbling away at the North end of the yard.

 The crew boards their locomotives

The SW9 grabs a caboose and prepares to tack it to the end of the cut of cars for Weehawken.  As usual, Conductor "Fingers" O'Malley is complaining to the hapless crewman about how much he hates transfer cabooses!  We get it already!

The cut is then shoved toward the waiting Geeps.

Watch the train, now designated as Extra 7085, back out of West Mill and leave town for Weehawken.

After Extra #7085 clears the yard, SW9 #8951 gets to work on the train headed to Terminal Yard on John's N.Y.C.T.L.  It adds LV boxcar #8247 to a string of auto parts cars for Ford Motor Co.  The LV car carries Delco batteries for Ford.

After coupling the LV car to the string, it shoves the auto parts cars back into two gulf tankers loaded with fuel for Ford.  The big auto manufacturing plant in Bedford Park will be receiving several cars this time around!

Immediately behind the tankers is PC #160502 loaded with various commodities for storage in All City Storage from Battaglia Brothers Warehouse.

One yard track is full of cars for Terminal Yard.  Watch the switcher start building the second cut in the video below, starting with cars that will be transferred to the Long Island Railroad.

These LIRR bound cars include two gons of poles from Bell Pole for LILCO and EL boxcar #73510 loaded with Port Owen bricks for Gotham Builders.

Watch a second yard move assembling a cut of cars for various N.Y.C.T.L. industries.

These cars include PC #360158 loaded with Zenith TVs for Superior Furniture, NYC Pacemaker #174508 loaded with sewing machine and wire twister parts from Quality Fabrications for Moore & Co...

...NH  #36116 loaded with canned food from Van Winkle Canning for Terminal Warehouse and Cold Storage, A.P.R.R. #9416 empty for Hudson Coal, TP&W #627 loaded with drums of cutting oil for Walsh Steel Wool, and NYC Hi Cube # 173861 loaded with "tall neck" bottles from Corning Glass for Heileman Beer.

The last bit of of yard work moves two cars for Drywell Ink.

NYC #80755 and LV #66392 are both loaded with new 55 gallons drums for Drywell Ink from Amalgamated Container.

Power for the train to Selkirk (with cars that will be forwarded to Terminal Yard) leaves the engine service area.   The consist includes GP40 #3003, GP30 #2228 and SD35 #6017

Watch the consist leave the engine service area in the video below.

The locomotives pause at WM Tower for orders.

...and then proceed into West Mill Yard to pick up their train, now known as Extra #3003 to Selkirk

Watch the train reach Kings Port and continue North to Selkirk in the video below.

As an Epilogue, here are "intra-layout" moves in this series on the KPD.  Four TOFCs head to New England on the B&M.

...and P&E 3638 is set out on the interchange to be forwarded to Port Owen Brick Co.

That concludes the "outbound posts from the KPD in this series.  Stay tuned next weekend as trains bring cars from John and Neal's layouts to be delivered to industries on the Kings Port Division!

P.C.C.M. 76: Part 1 on on the KPD

 Hello again!

After the milestone 75th virtual ops series between our layouts we're following up with Patriotic 76!  Well, the PC was not in existence anymore during the actual American Bicentennial as Conrail took over that year but the number 76 always has that connotation.

You'll see some pre-Bicentennial Year action modeled in this series as the PC, although having declared bankruptcy, is still dispatching trains and moving cars.  This three-layout virtual ops series includes John's  New York Central Train Layout  and Neal's  Atlantic Pacific R.R. as well as my own Kings Port Division.

Starting things off early at 8 AM, we're railfanning at the Kings Port & Western's Mayfield Yard, using our long range camera lens to capture the latest transfer run to the PC's West Mill Yard.  The two locomotive consist rolls by...

...followed by six cars from ACME Auto Parts for Ford, including 86 foot boxcars PRR #125291, NYC #67086....

...Empire Belt #608279 (a railfan favorite!), NYC #53051...

...KP&W #503353 and PC/TOC #50562.

The train is also hauling a pair of cars from Amalgamated Container, carrying new 55 gallon drums.  NYC #80755 and LV #66392 are both headed to Drywell Ink.

The PC Hi Cube and two KP&W boxcars are being forwarded from Peerless Appliance.  PC #272742 is loaded with refrigeration equipment for Bucola Cold Storage in Buffalo

..while KP&W #644450 and 644455 are loaded with kitchen appliances for Three Amigos Warehouse near the A.P.R.R.'s  Rock Ridge Yard.

09:35-The train arrives at West Mill to set out the cars and pick up a string of empty hoppers to return to Mayfield Yard.

The train cuts its caboose and temporarily leaves it on the car float lead.

...and then backs the string of cars into West Mill Yard in the video below:

The KP&W power uncouples from the cars it set out at West Mill...

...and prepares to move over one track to pick up a string of empty coal hoppers bound for the LV Coal Connection.

The train prepares to leave West Mill

Watch the coal hoppers get pulled out in the video below:

The train picks up its caboose for the journey back to Mayfield.

11:20- We are waiting for Penn Central Train BWM-2, the Bloomberg run, to return to West Mill.  It will hold at this signal before taking the main and later entering the yard.

Watch BWM-2 hold for a helper set of twin FP7s heading for an assignment in Kings Port in the video below.

The NYC caboose is set out on the caboose track prior to backing the cars into the yard.

Watch the Bloomberg cars get set out at West Mill in the video below:

14:05- The Kings Port Turn, working in Kings Port, picks up PC #160502 that was set on the KP&W interchange track after being pulled from Battaglia Brothers Warehouse.  The car is loaded with various items for All City Storage.

14:38- The Turn prepares to pick up two Gulf tank cars and TP&W boxcar #627 from the Gulf facility on the river.  The tankers are loaded with fuel for Ford while the box car is loaded with 55 gallon drums of cutting oil for Walsh Steel Wool.

After picking up the cars at Gulf the Turn heads for West Mill

Watch the Kings Port Turn with its pair of RSD12s bring in cars to West Mill Yard in the video below:

16:18- A KP&W "BiWi" (Binghamton to Williams Yard) train arrives at West Mill to drop off a cut of cars in the video below:

The train's caboose stops near West Mill Yard's tower so the conductor can confer with the yard office.

The cut of cars for West Mill is uncoupled from the train.

.....and pulled forward so they can access the yard entrance.

Watch the cut from Binghamton get set out at West Mill Yard in the video below:

The rest of the BiWi waits for its F7A &B power to return.

Watch the BiWi leave West Mill for Williams Yard in Kings Port in the video below:

After the BiWi is clear SW9 #8951 is given the task of pulling the Binghamton cut into the yard.

Watch the action in the video below:

All of the cars scheduled for dispatch on outgoing trains to John's N.Y.C.T.L. and Neal's A.P.R.R. have been gathered at West Mill.

Stay tuned as they are blocked into north and southbound trains!

Thanks for following along!
