P.C.C.M. 46F: The Kings Port Turn and the West Mill Turn

Hi all!

We left the Kings Port Turn as it was approaching Williams Yard in Kings Port, the train's turnaround point and interchange with the Kings Port & Western Railroad.

The Turn enters Williams Yard where it will set out and pick up cars.

The two TOFCs are pulled from the Turn and set at the unloading dock.

KP&W switchers pull the TPFX and PC 50 foot cars destined for nearby Battaglia Brothers Warehouse...

...and then tack B&M RBL #105 and a NYC covered hopper, both loaded with flour from Blue Ribbon onto the Turn.

The set outs and pick ups at Williams Yard completed, the Turn's power does a run around move so GP30 #6115 is now at the head end.  The train heading back to West Mill is now designated KW-2.

The train leaves Kings Port with the cars picked up from Williams Yard at the rear.

KW-2 stops at Hedberg Aggregates on the return trip to pick up a loaded hopper and PC boxcar #104478, loaded with bags of landscape rock.

The Turn makes it back home to West Mill with cars in tow that will be transferred to the KP&W and the A.P.P.R as part of the current virtual ops, along with others that will go back to the New York Central Train Layout in future P.C.C.M. moves

After being sorted by the West Mill Yard switcher we see a short block of three cars for the KP&W's Mountain Branch...

...and another cut to be transferred to the KP&W's Mayfield Yard for forwarding to consignees.

The West Mill Turn, a KP&W train from Mayfield has reached West Mill and dropped off cars for interchange.   Its unusual power of GP9 #769 and an F7 B unit prepares to grab cars for the return trip to Mayfield.

The West Mill yard crew has set the three cars for Mayfield along with a pair of KP&W covered hoppers on the interchange track for pick up.

The KP&W's West Mill Turn gets clearance to leave town.

The KP&W Turn arrives at Mayfield Yard later that afternoon.  Cars are quickly cut and sent out on a short local.

KP&W RS3 #566 does the work switching ACME Auto Parts.  The 86 foot NYC auto parts car is set out before the red GM&O car and the NYC Hi Cube are picked up.  These pick ups are part of the cars' cycles listed on our Rail Traffic Management Form that determines traffic for the P.C.C.M.s.  They'll be seen heading to other destinations in P.C.C.M 47.

The next stop for the KP&W local is Cavendish Foods and Spirits.   The empty Morton Salt car will be sent to the Atlantic Pacific Railroad via Weehawken and the NYC covered hopper loaded with "wort" from the distilling process will eventually work its way to fellow modeler Brian's railroad for cattle feed.  The empty Illinois Central car and a P&E car loaded with packaging materials are being set out.

The last bit of business for the local is switching out Peerless Appliance, which involves only picking up boxcars loaded with kitchen appliances today.   The three NYC double door 50 foot boxcars will eventually work their way to All City Storage on the N.Y.C.T.L. while the two KP&W boxcars are being sent to Three Amigos Warehouse via Weehawken and the A.P.R.R. in this current series.

All of the local's pick ups are brought back to Mayfield and then forwarded the next day to West Mill.   The cut shown below is going to be picked up by PC Train VW-1 (Selkirk to Weehawken).  From there they will all be forwarded to the AP.R.R.   The two orange KP&W cars are for Three amigos Warehouse, the Morton Salt car is returning to its facility near Rock Ridge Yard, the aging NYC Pacemaker is loaded with new 55 gallon drums for the Oil and Chemical facility near Rock Ridge, and the blue B&M RBL is loaded with large bags of flour for Freihoefer's, makers of very fine cookies and baked goodies!

Next up:  VW-2 stops at West Mill to pick up cars for the A.P.R.R.

P.C.C.M. 46E: The Kings Port Turn

Hello,

We continue the latest Penn Central Car Movements (P.C.C.M.) series of virtual operations as the Kings Port Turn delivers cars that originated from the New York Central Train Layout.

Power for today's Turn is headed by GP38-2 #6150 and GP30 #6115.  The GP30s have been maligned by some but they perform well on the Kings Port Division!

The two unit consist backs into the yard to pick up "The Turn".

A yard hand observes the cars roll by as the Turn pulls out of the yard.    The caboose that will be tacked on the rear of this train is visible in the background on the caboose track.

The caboose is added to the short string of cars, officially making them The Kings Port Turn or WK-1.  It will be designated as KW-2 on the return run from Kings Port

The first pick up is the brown NYC boxcar at Canton Box.

This move completed, the train heads out of town until it reaches Reynolds Beverage Distributors and Booms Ready Mix which both have cars needing to be picked up.  These cars will figure in freight traffic cycles in future P.C.C.M.s     No set outs yet.

As the Turn slows to work Reynolds and Booms, a steel train overtakes it on the next track led by a GP38/FP7 consist.

The Turn's two Geeps are cut to pick up cars while the steel train's loaded gondolas and coil cars rumble by.

The end of the steel train is visible behind GP30# 6115.

A TP&W 40 footer from Booms Ready Mix and an Illinois Central boxcar from Reynolds Beverage Dist. are pulled from the siding.

Meanwhile the steel train slows as it passes by the helper pocket occupied by a pair of FP7 pushers.   This heavy tonnage train is going to get a little help going up the hill to Marion.

The helpers get behind the steel train and hook up on the fly.

A local railfan catches the helper set in action

While the steel train gets a shove, the Kings Port Turn adds the two cars to its train and proceeds to follow the it upgrade toward Marion.

Our railfan stuck around long enough to catch the climbing Turn meet the returning helper set!

The Turn reaches Marion and passes Hedberg Aggregates.  It will pick up two cars there on the return trip.

Reaching KP Steel, the Turn will pick up the PC boxcar in the background, the two coil cars, and the two PC corrugated gondolas.  It will set out two coil cars to replace the pair picked up.

First the boxcar is pulled...

..followed by the breadbox trough coil cars and the corrugated gons.

The last move at KP Steel is to set out two other covered coil cars.

The pick ups are added to the train and it gets underway toward Williams Yard to interchange with the Kings Port & Western

WK-1 approaches Williams Yard....

That seems like enough to this installment!  The next one, soon to come, will feature the Turn at Williams Yard and then making its trip back to West Mill as KW-2.

Thanks for taking a look at this long post!
