P.C.C.M. #43E: Breaking up Train VW-1 at West Mill

Hi folks!

Train VW-1 from Selkirk has arrived at West Mill and yard switcher SD9 #6922 is assigned the task of pulling cars for West Mill Yard.

The SD9 passes by the rear of the cut of cars to be pulled off of VW-1.

A cut is made behind B&M #105 which is loaded with printed packaging materials for Blue Ribbon Flour   The B&M RBL car is part of a cut of cars that will be included on a future Penn Central "Turn" from West Mill to Kings Port and back.   All of the cars behind B&M #105 will be interchanged with the Kings Port & Western RR.

SD9 #6922 pulls the cars on the drill track next to the main where the rest of VW-1 waits under the tunnel...

...and then reverses to push the cut into West Mill Yard.   The P&LE car is loaded with hardware for Peerless Appliance while the GM&O car behind it, also full of hardware, is going to ACME Auto Parts.   The TDLX Cargill covered hopper is loaded with barley for Cavendish Fine Foods and Spirits for its Scotch whiskey distillation.

PC boxcar #360063, just ahead of the old Pacemaker full of burlap bags, is a new participant in our virtual ops, loaded with adhesive labels from Berk Enterprises for Van Winkle Canning.

The crew takes a short breather and then heads out to grab the next cut.

These are cars for the "Turn" out of West Mill.   B&M #105 with its printed packaging for Blue Ribbon Flour, two corrugated gons loaded with scrap for KP Steel....

...along with PC #77047 loaded with burlap bags for Hedberg Aggregates, TP&W #627 loaded with scrap steel wool for Booms Ready Mix, and IC car #30130 loaded (so to speak) with cases of fine Heileman Beer for Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

Our capable SD9 pulls the cars forward on the drill track...

...and shoves them into the yard on a different track.

One more trip out to collect the five empty grain hoppers for Empire Grain.

Coupling up with the covered hoppers....

Cutting the cars from the power for VW-1... Commuters get a rare close up view of the uncoupling

...pulling them away...

...and setting them out in the yard.

That's it for the switcher crew of SD9 # 6922!

West Mill Yard is looking a lot more busy now!   Yardmaster Cappy Foster is going to want to see some efficient movement of these cars filling up his yard!

Meanwhile the crew of VW-1's consist needs to reconnect with the remainder of its train now that the cars for West Mill have been cut.  While they've enjoyed watching the West Mill guys work, break time's over!   Notching up in reverse, the four unit lash up backs up toward the cars waiting under GERN Industries...

After coupling on and pumping up the air, VW-1 gets the go ahead to proceed to Weehawken with its remaining cars.  The train slowly crawls out of West Mill, passing Sal's Auto Salvage.

The train continues past West Mill Yard until it enters the tunnel at the south end of town.

VW-1 is clear of West Mill.  Its now up to the Penn Central and Kings Port & Western to deliver the cars to their various consignees..

Stay tuned!
