P.C.C.M. #43K: Wrapping it up!

Hi gang!

This is the final installment of this series.

You may recall the Kings Port Turn returned to West Mill Yard with a number of cars in tow...

...including this NYC HiCube.   The extra high car is pulled from the rear of the train and set out next to two B&M RBL cars.  All three are going to Corning Glass.  The two B&M cars will be loaded with sheet glass and mirrors while the NYC Hi Cube will be loaded with new "tall neck" bottles for Heileman Brewery that the car is well suited to handle!

The cars are taken to the interchange track.   Switcher #8951 does a runaround move to get behind them to make the shove.

The three cars are set out and waiting for the KP&W's next train to Salamanca, NY.  which stops at Corning.

Meanwhile, over at the Kings Port locomotive facility, two KP&W SD9s notch up from an idle to roll into Williams Yard to pick up their train.

The big six axle units are sisters with consecutive numbers.

Entering Williams Yard.

About a half hour later the pair of SD9s is seen pulling Extra #897 out of town.  Most KP&W freights are designated as extras.

The train makes its appearance at West Mill later in the afternoon.  The twin consist is cut to grab the three cars on the interchange track for Corning Glass

Adding the cars to the train while WM Tower's operator observes from the bottom of the tower's stairway.

After making the pick ups for Corning, Extra #897 doesn't have to wait long to get the go-ahead to proceed.

The train passes by West Mill Yard's locomotive tracks.  PC engine crews stare wistfully at the colorful loco paint scheme....

More cars roll by for Salamanca, the Western terminus of the  KP&W where it connects with the B&O.

The signal bridge is all green indications for Extra 897 to leave town and take the cut-off from shared Penn Central track on the other side of this tunnel.

The end of the long train is seen at the north end of town...

...while more cars rumble into the tunnel at the south end...
  .
...until the Kings Port & Western blue caboose ducks into the tunnel as well.  The KP&W has a history of being experimental with its paint schemes and railfans still occasionally spot one of the earlier blue bodied cabooses.  Most are plain orange now.

When the train reaches Corning the three cars are cut at the glass company.  The NYC Hi Cube is out of sight on the right.  This move concludes series #43!   Thanks for following along!

  1. Great wrap up for P.C.C.M. 43! The freight action never ends which is a tribute to your great layout! You've done a great job on your backdrop buildings. I really like the way they came out! Onward to the next P.C.C.M.!

  2. Nice finish to the series! The KP&W SD9 lash up makes for a colorful point on the extra. I can see why the PC crews would be envious of them. The railfans get a special treat with the blue Bay Window Caboose. I can see some NYC inspired lettering on it. Corning Glass looks good on the new shelf layout as well.

  3. Thanks! I did borrow from a PC/NYC decal sheet to number the caboose.

Acknowledge final dispositions of all freight cars forwarded in Train LI-1. Nice work by the PC and KP&W!

    Terminal Yard out...

Put it in the books!!! Nice wrap up Ralph! I really enjoyed following along with all the action generated on the KPD and KP&W. The showcase of KP&W motive power including the newly painted units was very well done. The newly painted SD9s look great. All in all another excellent installment and wrap up!
