Our Rail Traffic Management Form determines the car movement operations cycles for all of the cars we own in common.
The form includes inter-layout moves between our layouts but also features Intra-layout movements of cars that stay on our layouts but move to different industries or yards. These Intra-layout moves set up future moves to other layouts as we progress through the cycles on the form.
What follows below is documentation of some of the moves done in preparation for our next "virtual op" in which cars travel to each other's layouts. All of the cars seen below arrived on the KPD during previous P.C.C.M.s from either John's New York Central Train Layout, Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , or Brian's Ralston Creek R.R. This time around, while some will be picked up to be placed in West Mill Yard for dispatch to other layouts, others will stay on the Kings Port Division as they are set out at new locations.
What do we have going this time? A KP&W Alco works the industrial park in Bloomberg to pull several cars from Zenith TV.
The cars include a KP&W boxcar that is actually going to be heading to Neal's A.P.R.R. and three NYC 50 ft. double door cars destined for John's N.Y.C.T.L. this series, while B&M 40 ft. boxcar #74005 will go elsewhere on my layout.
B&M boxcar # 74005 is set out empty at Peerless Appliance...
...and NYC Hi Cube #173861 is pulled from Peerless loaded with kitchen appliances for Battaglia Bros. Warehouse on my layout.
The red GM&O car will be moved empty to Quality Fabrications while the empty NYC covered hopper is on its way to Empire Grain.
GM&O #21129 is set out at Quality Fab where it will be loaded with parts for Moore & Co on John's layout for the next series.
NYC #892010 is being pushed into Empire Grain where it will be loaded with grain for Ronzoni, a future move to John's layout.
Action at ACME Auto Parts includes pulling these three 60 foot auto parts cars that will be going to Ford on John's layout this series....
..but KP&W #922 pulls out NYC boxcar # 80755 first. This car will make an intra-layout move to Amalgamated Container
Meanwhile in Kings Port, KP&W GP9 #742 hauls PC depressed well flat car #766053 out of the engine facility. This is actually a show of gratitude on 742's part as the PC flat car came into the yard carrying the replacement EMD Prime Mover that was recently
The now purring #742 also pulls PS-2 covered hopper #445052 that provided locomotive sand to the engine yard's sand towers.
The PS-2 covered hopper is moved over to Hedberg Aggregates for a load of crushed aggregate for a future move to Lombo Concrete on the N.Y.C.T.L....
...while the depressed well flat car and NYC boxcar #80755 (which was pulled from Peerless Appliance...remember?) are set out empty at Amalgamated Container for future moves. The green PC gon with a load of tanks will be pulled for this current series.
The last intra-layout move involves brown KP&W and MCRR gondolas #2140 and #350623. These cars brought scrap metal to KP Steel's Basic Oxygen Furnace. They'll be moved empty to Bell Pole and Lumber in Bloomberg.
The two PC Corrugated gons loaded with coils will be pulled for this series and sent to Neal's layout.
Four of the Evans Bread Box Trough Coil Cars will be headed to John's layout this series.
The KP&W and MCRR gons arrive at Bell Pole & Lumber across the tracks from Agway.
That completes the KPD's intra-layout moves this time around. We also got a sample of some of the prep work pulling cars for our current P.C.C.M. 62 series. Those cars are now waiting for sorting and dispatch either at West Mill Yard...
or the interchange track with the Penn Central near Williams Yard in Kings Port.
Stay tuned as virtual ops action between my Kings Port Division, John's N.Y.C.T.L. and Neal's A.P.R.R. begins this weekend!
