P.C.C.M. 62 Part 3: Cars arrive on the KPD

Hi all!

Last weekend cars were sent FROM the KPD to John's New York Central Train Layout and Neal's A.P.R.R.   This time we'll follow cars coming onto the KPD from both layouts.  

Penn Central Extra #2228 from Selkirk is carrying cars dispatched from Terminal Yard.   The train is headed by a GP30/ F7B consist.  

Among the cars on this train are Penn Central #360158 which, after a delayed dispatch from the N.Y.C.T.L., seemed to be the subject of close scrutiny by unsavory characters observing track side.   The car, consigned to Battaglia Brothers Warehouse, seems to be very important to the customers.  Is there something special about this load of furniture from Superior Furniture?

The surveillance seems to continue as a mysterious black car parks on the side of Ulster Ave. as 360158 is cut and pushed down the industrial spur all the way into Battaglia Bros. Warehouse.   This is a little odd since cars would normally be dropped off at the interchange track and the KP&W would later make the final set out.  Some one has pulled some strings to expedite shipment!

Meanwhile, a grey sedan on stakeout by the Feds sits across the tracks.

PC #360158 is cut for its special move.

PC 360158 now delivered to Battaglia Bros Warehouse, the black car makes a quick turnaround and disappears under the overpass. 

The grey sedan follows, trying to keep the tale!

PC #360158 at its consignee's loading dock.  Seems to be a lot of attention being paid to this load of furniture. What gives here?  "The Furniture Connection?"

Later at Hedberg Aggregates in Marion NY, two cars wait for Extra 2228 to pick them up and drop off PC boxcar #77047

The Extra arrives...

PC 77047 is cut from the train and used to pull out the two pick ups. 

Once the two pick ups are added to the train its time to set out PC #77047 which has a load of new burlap bags from Moore & Co. It will be reloaded with bagged landscape rock for Neal's Lumber and Hardware.

The car set out at Hedberg, the train continues on its journey to West Mill

The train passes Reynolds Beverage, the consignee for the black and orange HRC car seen in the photo above behind the PRR 86 footer, but its a facing siding.  A West Mill local will deliver this car later. 

At West Mill, a crew performs maintenance work on a grade crossing.   Extra 2228 will take the Yard Entrance track in the foreground and will not be delayed by this work. 

The switches are set to route the train into the yard but a crewman stands by to alert the train of the track work ahead. 

The enormous PRR auto parts car squeals in protest rounding this curve.

Extra 2228 enters West Mill Yard

The Extra's caboose passes the grade work where most of the crew took time out to observe its passing.  What?  Never seen a train before?  Get back to work!

Continuing into West Mill...

Tying up the Extra. 

"Virtual ops" cars ready to be forwarded to their consignees.

Not long after the arrival of Extra 2228, Northbound WV-2 from Weehawken emerges from the tunnel on the south end of town. 

The train is comprised of cars from the A.P.R.R.'s Rock Ridge Yard, including these two short KP&W coal hoppers #233 and 234.

A string of 100 ton and 70 ton coal hoppers for Hudson Coal on the N.Y.C.T.L. follow the two shorties.

Time for the track gang to stand back and allow GP40 #3007 to drop off the two KP&W hoppers.  Another break!

KP&W #234 and #233 are set out at West Mill.  They will later be forwarded to the KP&W's Mayfield Yard for its Lehigh Valley connection into coal country
