Greetings railfans!
After running special grain train and unit coal train ops at the end of last year we are returning to our usual Penn Central Car Movement virtual ops by forwarding various freight cars between three layouts. John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own Kings Port division resume normal operations this time around!
Railfans observing the action at West Mill Yard are treated to a number of moves today! Cars coming in are a mix of cars destined to head for John's and Neal's layouts and "intra-layout moves" on my own layout. The first train is BWM-2, a "Turn" coming back from picking up cars in Bloomberg. It will hold before accessing the mainline in order to allow another train to pass.
BWM-2 is waiting for "The Cement Job" which is hauling cars it picked up at Tri-Mount Cement. In a previous post I noted that this
new industry would be located in Bloomberg but I've since decided that
it is actually south of West Mill on the River Line. More on that in the future!
Watch the Cement Job roll by in the video below:
After the Cement Job passes, BWM-2, seen in the distance in the upper left corner of the photo, will take the mainline.
BWM-2 will stop beyond the Yard Lead and then shove its cars back into the yard.
Watch the action as the Cement Job backs into West Mill Yard while BWM-2 follows close behind.
A little later in the morning, the next train to arrive is the KP&W's Mayfield Transfer headed by an F7A/RS3 consist.
It also needs to hold before accessing the main to allow another train to pass. This time its a short haul to Half Moon Wholesale Lumber with a pair of bullheaded flatcars that were picked up from the KP&W/PC interchange in Kings Port yesterday.
Watch the Mayfield Transfer come in after the southbound local rolls by in the video below
The bulkhead flats and an empty boxcar will eventually be set out at Half Moon Wholesale Lumber Distributors.
The Mayfield Transfer is now in place beyond the yard lead to shove its cars into the yard.
West Mill Yard is filling up, but more incoming traffic is on its way.
More cars arrive after lunch from the "BiWi", the Kings Port & Western's train from Binghamton to Williams Yard in Kings Port, which is making an intermediate stop at West Mill.
Watch the BiWi arrive with pooled KP&W and PC power in the video below:
A KP&W crewman uncouples the cut of four cars being dropped off at West Mill
The mixed road consist returns to the rest of its train...
...and heads out of town toward Kings Port.
That's plenty of action for today! Check in tomorrow for more!

A plethora of fine looking trains at West Mill today is the perfect way to start year five and our return to the more traditional ops!! Mayfield Transfer was a very impressive train from the locomotives to the freight consist. Congratulations to the Cement Job making it's virtual ops debut! Videos and photos excellent as always. Well done Ralph!!

Great jump into our 2021 op sessions! West Mill is hopping with action. I really liked the cement job video with the coal cars in the mix. PC &KP&W F units in action; such classic engines! Always great to watch all of your train moves…
