P.C.C.M. 82: Part 3 on the KPD

 Hi everyone!

This is the third installment of our current virtual operations between John's New York Central Train Layout, Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R., and my own Kings Port Division.    I've had a fairly easy time of it thanks to what we refer to as "the caprice of the Rail Traffic Management Form", the multiple page guide that describes the car forwarding cycles of our freight cars as they head toward their consignees.   The Kings Port Division hasn't had to move as many cars in this series so far but I am aware that this trend will change dramatically when cars come rolling in from John and Neal's layouts next weekend!

Until then, however, lets focus on the outgoing portion!

Two trains will be assembled and dispatched; one for John's N.Y.C.T.L. and the other for Neal's A.P.R.R.  Starting with the train planned for the N.Y.C.T.L., it takes a little yard work to arrange the cars in the proper order.

SW9 #8591 handles the duties as usual.

Watch the train for the N.Y.C.T.L. get put together in the video below:

The switcher still needs to add six empty coal hoppers from Tri Mount Cement for Hudson Coal to complete the train for the N.Y.C.T.L.

It will run down the empty Track 2 to grab them.

Watch the action in the video below:

The cut of cars is now ready for some power to take it to Selkirk where they will be forwarded to Terminal Yard on John's layout.   A pair of GP38-2s get the call.   Watch the action in the video below:

The train now known as Extra #8150 is on its way to Selkirk!

The yard switcher begins building the train for Weehawken with cars destined for the A.P.R.R. by bringing the two LV cars and the Coring covered hopper left by a KP&W train yesterday into the yard.

LV reefer #7120 is loaded with Heintz pickles and catsup for C&P Restaurant Supply while LV boxcar #8472 is carrying Delco batteries for IDEAL Auto Parts.

LV #7120 is coupled up to the black Hoschton boxcar as it is also going to C&P Restaurant Supply, loaded with beer and wine from Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

The rest of the train is assembled with two KP&W hoppers loaded with coal for RMO Electric...

...KP&W #30112 & 30115 loaded with Zenith TVs for Three Amigos Warehouse...

...and the empty Corning car that will be forwarded to Pennsylvania Glass Sand in Cumberland, NJ.
Once the cars have all been coupled together the switcher adds caboose #24520

Watch a pair of Geeps roll past the train to get to its head end and then push it out of the yard in the video below:

The train now identified as Extra #7085 is positioned on the mainline and prepares to head south to Weehawken for interchange with the A.P.R.R.

Watch the train depart while a Sunday fan trip returns from the Catskills on the Bloomberg Branch:

That's it for the outbound installments from the KPD!  Stay tuned next weekend as inbound trains bring plenty of cars for the Penn Central and Kings Port & Western to forward to their final destinations!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

I love the RDC Car as part of the move while watching Extra 7085 heading out. The A.P.R.R. is at the ready for the inbound freight from West Mill!

    1. Thanks Neal! I haven't run the RDC for a while and thought it was time to get it out again. Since the Bloomberg Branch doesn't run freight on Sunday I figured this was an opportune time to talk about a fan trip with the railcar.

    Terminal Yard out...

I can watch the 8951, workhorse of West Mill, blocking cars and building trains all day!!! The crew at Terminal Yard appreciates the blocking from West Mill Yard! Both Extras, 8150 and 7085, were good looking trains and the videos of them on the move with the great sound effects were very nicely done. The RDC was a nice great to see from one RDC owner to another... A great job all around Ralph!!! Terminal Yard is standing by....

  3. Thanks John,

Switcher #8951 was a last minute purchase at a train show a few years ago. I was almost out the door and saw a table with some New York Central equipment. At $20 this little loco "that can" is one of my best model railroad buys! It is the mainstay of West Mill Yard!
