Greetings virtual ops fans!
We're starting our "inbound" installments of this Penn Central Car Movement series as trains from John's New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. bring cars to my Kings Port Division.
John had a record breaking 75 cars to forward to Neal and me that led him to dispatch two trains to the KPD this time. Neal is also sending cars my way from the south via Weehawken. It looks like I may be facing my turn to manage a lot of rolling stock!
John's first train coming my way is Advance SK-7, a train composed of cars all going to either the Kings Port & Western's Williams Yard near Kings Port or the Kings Port interchange for immediate forwarding to local industries. The train powered by a very cool consist of two FP7s can be seen leaving John's N.Y.C.T.L. in the photo below.
Things are pretty quiet around Ulster Ave. in Kings Port except for the low burbling of a helper set idling in the background.
But then, a distinctive diesel horn can be heard coming from the north side of town.
Watch as Advance SK-7 arrives at Kings Port with the same FP7 consist assigned at Terminal Yard.
Several cars will be set on the interchange with the Kings Port & Western to facilitate quick delivery by the KP&W. These include this PC depressed well flat carrying a primer mover intended for an aging KP&W GP9...
...these four empty steel coil coaches for nearby KP Steel...
...and Cargill covered hopper TLDX #7241 full of wheat flour and PC boxcar #229046 loaded with Berk Enterprises packaging materials, both for nearby Blue Ribbon Flour.
The train pulls ahead to drop off the primer mover first.
The PC boxcar, Cargill covered hopper, and four coil coaches are next. Watch that action in the video below:
After the FP7s rejoin their train they notch up to push the rest of it into Williams Yard. The yard entrance switch located under the overpass has been aligned to permit the PC freight entry into the Kings Port & Western's large yard just north of town.
Four TOFCs are also part of the delivery to William Yard. Only two of the four have trailers this time.
Watch the action in the video below.
Now that Advance SK-7 is gone, diminutive industrial switcher #2 from KP Steel comes out to claim the four coil coaches.
Coming from the opposite direction, a Williams Yard S12 arrives to switch the rest of the cars on the interchange. Starting first with the cars for Blue Ribbon Flour...
After setting out the cars for Blue Ribbon #34 pulls out the depressed well flat with the prime mover so it can run behind it.
...and then shoves the load into the KP&W engine shop.
Lets head over to Williams Yard a little while later where the cars shoved into its receiving track by Advance SK-7 have been separated and moved to various locations.
The four gondolas of pipe for the Hudson Valley Ag Coop are being unloaded....
...as are the TOFCs ...
...the three empty B&M RBLs heading to Merrimack NH have been put on a pooled power train. The KP&W and PC sometimes cooperate dispatching B&M trains to New England from Williams Yard. This freight, Extra #1805, gets the go ahead to roll out of the yard limits.
The two remaining cars brought in by Advance SK-7, NYC double door 50 footers loaded with wire and cable from Bruce Electric for IBM, are scheduled for the next "WiBi", the Williams Yard to Binghamton transfer.
That takes care of half the cars from the N.Y.C.T.L.! Stop by tomorrow for the arrival of more on train SK-7 and a train from Weehawken with cars from Neal's A.P.R.R.

ReplyDeleteWhoops! Sorry Neal! I accidentally deleted your comment! Anyway, thanks for the compliments. I haven't shown the engine shop and facilities very often lately so it is nice to feature them occasionally. The prime mover delivery is a nice way of getting that done.

Well done Ralph!!! You had me with "burbling helpers"! Great job handling the ADV-SK7. I liked the scenes with the empty clamshell cars near the Little Caesars Pizza billboard which are not often seen. It was nice treat getting the engine shop into the op, it's another very cool looking scene. Williams Yard looking good and running efficiently!!! The unloading of the TOFCs and pipe loads was nice to see as was the pooled power Extra 1805.
Thanks John!
ReplyDeleteI sure like that PC cab pulling its trailer onto the TOFC ramp! Thanks for that gift!
You're most welcome! A small enhancement to an excellent scene.
