The Kings Port Division is running a quick grain train op with the New York Central Train Layout.
During the last few days several groups of loaded hoppers have been moved from Empire Grain to nearby West Mill Yard in preparation for a unit grain train going to Empire City for eventual over seas shipment.
One more string needs to be picked up from Empire Grain
Yard Switcher #8951 is assigned the task.
See the cars being brought into West Mill Yard in the video below:
After the cars have been brought into West Mill the switcher is cut and pulls forward. On the DC controlled Kings Port Division a separate electrical block is located by the small structure near the loco so it can be turned off.
The yard is now full of covered hoppers loaded with grain.
A consist of GP30 #2228 and GP38-2 #8150 is called to pull the covered hoppers out of West Mill.
After cars are pulled from the first track the EMD lashup backs up to grab the cars waiting on the other two.
The pink Klemme COOP car is an unlikely part of this train but its a sentimental favorite reflecting five years lived in Iowa where I often saw these distinctive cars roll by.
The train stretches the length of West Mill
With a combined 4250 horsepower the consist rumbles as it pulls the grain train through the maze of switches near WM Tower
N8 caboose #23274, a former PRR cabin car, is tacked onto the rear.
When the train reaches Ulster Ave. in Kings Port it meets a waiting road freight headed by an unusual consist of an F7B sandwiched between two GP38-2s.

A very impressive train heading to Empire City. Empire Grain should fetch a pretty penny on the open market for grain heading overseas. Once the N.Y.C.T.L. gets control of the grain, I'm sure top dollar will be collected! Nice run...

Terminal Yard out...
Nicely done Ralph!! A very enjoyable look into the operations of moving a grain train into and out of West Mill!!! The 2228 looked very sharp!!! The videos were excellent as always!!
Great looking unit Grain train action. Looks like Cappy Foster had his hands full with all of those loaded grain hoppers. I don’t know when the COOP’s started painting their cars pink like your Klemme car. Still looks good mixed in your train.
