P.C.C.M. 58: Final installment on the KPD

Hey everyone!

We're winding down the current Penn Central Car Movement series #58!  Its been a great one with lots of train action and plenty of "virtual ops" that you can follow on:

John R.'s New York Central Train Layout

Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR

Brian's Ralston Creek Railroad

Meanwhile, on my Kings Port Division Train VW-1 from Selkirk to Weehawken is arriving at West Mill to drop off and pick up cars.

These two cars at the front of the train will be set out at West Mill to be forwarded to local industries. The PC covered hopper is loaded with hops from Denver for Cavendish Foods and Spirits while the CB&Q gon will take a short trip to Sal's Salvage near the yard.

Other cars from western yards are seen on this train.

VW-1 slows as it passes the string of GULF tankers recently picked up on a priority "Short Turnaround Run".  VW-1 will be taking them down to Weehawken.

Stopping at West Mill, VW-1's consist of a GP38-2 and GP40 pull the PC covered hopper and the CB&Q gon off the train.

VW-1's power than picks up the tankers and adds them to the train.  The earlier priority run to GULF was called to make this connection happen.

VW-1 now reassembled, gets permission to proceed to Weehawken.

After VW-1 left town, the West Mill yard switcher moved the set outs.   The PC covered hopper is tacked onto this block of cars that will be interchanged with the KP&W for their Mayfield Yard.

The CB&Q gon sits by itself waiting to be delivered empty to Sal's Salvage.

Later in the afternoon a Kings Port & Western transfer from Mayfield arrives at West Mill with a number of cars from roads it interchanges with there including  "The Valley"...

The CNJ...

....and the Reading.

SD9 #897 handles the job and after a short break disconnects from the LV boxcar and prepares to pull the block on the next track  destined for Mayfield.

Watch the train pull out of West Mill Yard in the video below:

The KP&W transfer arrives at Mayfield Yard.

The KP&W's RS11 #922 gets the job of heading a short local that drops off the PC gon at Cavendish Foods...

Followed by three 60 foot empty auto parts cars....

...and an empty old NYC Pacemaker at ACME Auto Parts.

From there the local spots a red Gulf, Mobile & Ohio boxcar loaded with wire harnesses at Peerless Appliance, completing its work.

As an epilogue,  the last car to be forwarded on the KPD  in this series is the CB&Q gon for Sal's Salvage.  The yard switcher and crew make short work of this one car move.

Sal gets word the gon is on his way and supervises its delivery personally.

As usual, interactions with Sal are less than cordial and the switcher crew is glad to quickly drop the car off and head back to the yard.

That wraps it up for this series!  Thanks for following along!
