P.C.C.M. #59: 3rd KPD installment: Cars from Terminal Yard arrive!

Hi everyone!

P.C.C.M. #59 is shaping up to be a great series already as

John's New York Central Train Layout
Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR
Brian's Ralston Creek RR blog
John B.'s Los Feliz & NW

and my Kings Port Division have all posted about sending trains off our layouts to forward cars to each other in this virtual ops scheme.

Now is the time to post about incoming trains and the follow up work needed to deliver them to their consignees.

On the Kings Port Division Train VWM-4 (Selkirk to West Mill) is first seen in the video below as it descends into Kings Port.  A pair of Penn Central FP7s area at the head end of this fairly short train.

Later as the train rolls through Kings Port it encounters a red indication and has to stop short of Ulster Ave.

VWM-4 will hold there for a priority freight headed by pooled B&O/ KP&W power with B&O KP&W and LV cars in tow.

See VWM-4 come to a stop and the crew take a break at Dave's Diner While the B&O/  KP&W freight overtakes it below:

Once the track is clear VWM-4 gets permission to proceed.

VWM-4 arrives at West Mill Yard.

The crew departs WM-4 at West Mill.

Cars on this train headed for Kings Port Division business include these two Evans breadbox trough coil cars, empty for KP Steel...

...EL #73510 loaded with crates from Neal's lumber for Peerless Appliance, NYC #80755 carrying Walsh Steel Wool muffler mesh for ACME Auto Parts....

...TP&W #627 bringing printed labels from Berk Enterprises to Van Winkle Canning, PC #77047 loaded with pallets for Woodstock Hills Natural Soda...

...PC #360158 is loaded with wood cabinets for Zenith TV sets...

PC #104478 has drums of ink from Drywell Inks for Canton Box Co.

..four gondola loads of rough scrap for Sal's Salvage metal shredder

The caboose is pulled.

The crew breaks for lunch.  A couple of hours later another train from Selkirk to Weehawken stops at West Mill.  My understanding of Penn Central's River Line operations was that around five trains a day would run consecutively in one direction between the major yards before five more would run in the opposite direction.

The West Mill yard crew is busy sorting cars brought in by VWM-4

...when the next train from Selkirk arrives with more cars for West Mill.

A pair of GP40s leads the train.

The cut for West Mill is seen here.  They have been forwarded from Colorado via Elkart Indiana.

See the action in the video below:

After the train stops the yard's SD9 gets to work pulling the four cars to be set out at West Mill.

Cars include this empty GERN covered hopper from GERN's Arvada Colorado distribution center for West Mill's GERN facility

PC covered hopper #890658 empty for Cavendish Foods to fill with leftover wort as cattle feed for the Denver Union Stockyards.  The GT boxcar is loaded with motors from Wazee Electric for Peerless Appliance.

NYC #47062 contains rolled cardboard from Rockmount Supply for Canton Box Co.

That's it for now.  Stay tuned as Penn Central locals and KP&W jobs deliver all of the cars to their final destinations in this series.

    Terminal Yard out...

Another excellent PCCM 59 installment Ralph! Really enjoyed seeing 'my trains' on your layout! Once again great photos, videos and documentation of the action. Personal favorite: VWM-4 4 arriving at West Mill. Perfectly done!

    Rock Ridge Out!

Great train movements in West Mill. I have to say the engineer on the B&O / KP&W had a heavy hand on that horn! Was that a rookie engineer trying to make a name for himself? I'm sure the railfan society would get a kick out of that! Like the LV box cars, they stand out in a sea of darker freight cars.
