STRIKE!!! A labor dispute affects operations of The Kings Port Turn.

Wrapping up P.C.C.M. 22, the final train to leave West Mill with cars originally from Terminal Yard is Train WW-2, the "Kings Port Turn".

Powered by a matched set of RSD12s (yes, I happily decided to update my other Atlas RSD12 that was originally painted as a Pennsy unit) the locomotives couple onto the train and head out of town.

Car movements for this version of the Turn, among others not shown, include picking up empty boxcars EL #73510 and PC #77047 from the Team Track and a setting out PC boxcar #46150 loaded with Heilemans Beer at Reynolds Beverage Distributors next door...

(Picking up)

(Setting out)

...and setting out two empty steel coil cars at KP Steel.  Word reached West Mill Yardmaster Cappy Foster that recent labor disputes at KP Steel prompted a temporary walkout at the steel plant, shutting it down for deliveries today.

STRIKE!

Despite being unable to deliver them to KP Steel, Cappy decided he wanted the coil cars out of his yard and arranged to have them "constructively placed" on a siding near the steel mill for later delivery.

Cutting the cars from the rest of the train

Rolling past the siding for a back up move...

"Constructively placing" the cars on the siding.   As soon as work resumes at KP Steel they will likely be delivered by the "Steel Job", a local from nearby Williams Yard that will include these two cars on its switch list.

"Constructive Placement"

After setting out other cars at Williams Yard, and delivering new B&M boxcar #110 to Battaglia Bros.Warehouse, the Turn's power does a runaround for the return trip to West Mill.

The caboose was set on the next track for later pick up at the new end of the train.

The conductor climbs aboard as the train (now designated WW-3) is ready to leave.

Passing the striking workers again, the crew gives them a sympathetic "thumbs up" as they head back to West Mill.  Hopefully management and labor can come to an agreement soon.

That's it for now!   Thanks for reading.

The KP&W takes cars to Mayfield Yard

Continuing the action of P.C.C.M. Series #22:  KP&W Train #E175 (also known as the West Mill Turn) arrives with cars from Mayfield that were part of a previous virtual ops series.

The caboose is cut and the cars are backed into West Mill Yard

The pair of F7As pulls away, recouples with its caboose, and then tacks it onto the end of the string of cars on the interchange track.

The KP&W power runs around the cars and backs the train out of the interchange track past WM tower to access the cut off to KP&W track to Mayfield.

The West Mill Turn leaves town.

P.C.C.M. 22 A summary of continued action

Hi all,

This latest virtual ops series on the Kings Port Division was quite detailed and included three trains dispatched with cars from the block that was originally part of Train LS-1 from Terminal Yard.    I sent several emails to John and the N.Y.C.T.L. to advise Terminal Yard of progress with the ops and to photo-document the action.   It occurs to me that this might become a little overwhelming to replicate in the blog so I'm going to provide a summary of some parts of the series as follows below.

Yard work builds the cut for interchange with the Kings Port & Western, the string of cars that will become the Kings Port Turn, and a grouping of four cars for a short local run to nearby industries such as Empire Grain, GERN Industries, and Canton Box Company.

P&LE boxcar #35892 and NYC 86 ft. auto parts car #67086 are from Terminal Yard and will be going to Peerless Appliance and ACME Auto Parts respectively.  These will be set out by the KP&W after they reach Mayfield Yard (off layout staging)

Three bread box trough style steel coil cars join the two cars from Terminal Yard.  These are headed to Peerless Appliance as well.

The five car cut is set on the interchange track for pick up by the KP&W.

The cars for industries near the yard including GERN Industries, Empire Grain, and Canton Box Company are assembled into a four car short run.    Two 50 ft. boxcars, TPFX #5510 and PC#160502 are loaded with cabinets for GERN's extensive interior remodeling.

NYC 50 ft boxcar #80755 is loaded with burlap bags for Empire Grain while PC 40 ft. boxcar #104478 contains drums of ink for Canton Box Company.

The local "Short Job" is ready to go on Track 5.

Car sorting for the Kings Port Turn includes moving this B&M boxcar made by Scale Trains, a company I recently learned about (courtesy of John) that offers HO and N scale models of different levels of detail and price.  The B&M car is one of their kit classics with metal wheels for only $9.99.

Cars for the Kings Port Turn from Terminal Yard are assembled at West Mill below.

The "Short Job" is performed by Penn Central SD9 #6925.  The engineer exchanges a few pleasantries with yard crew and the NYC switcher's engineer before setting out.

The Short Job rolls out of West Mill to work at Canton Box Co.

The short train then backs toward Empire Grain...

...the loco runs around the cut of cars, picks up two covered hoppers...

...and drops off the NYC boxcar loaded with burlap bags.

Last moves are at GERN Industries.   A back and forth move in front of Canton Box Co. puts the train in position to pick up two gondolas from Sal's Salvage and a tanker from GERN before setting out the two 50 ft. boxcars.

The Short Job finishes its work as it pulls the pick ups into West Mill

Next up:  A KP&W train arrives to take the cut of five cars to Mayfield.

Then:  The Kings Port Turn is dispatched.
