P.C.C.M. 66: Part 6 on the KPD

Hello again!

Here is the last installment of the 66th series of Penn Central Car Movements (P.C.C.M. 66) on the Kings Port Division.   The remaining cars in West Mill Yard will be delivered by the Kings Port & Western.   Runs to their Mountain Branch, Mayfield Branch, and Corning will finish the work.

We'll start with a run up the Catskills to Bloomberg.   P&E #3638 is loaded with drums of ink from Drywell Ink for Catskill Mountain Press.

It is joined by four covered hoppers for Bloomberg's Agway elevator.  This string meets the KP&W's minimum requirement for at least five cars to justify a train up the Mountain Branch.

KP&W GP9  #769 is readied for the run.

West Mill's switcher pulls a KP&W caboose from the service track and couples it up to the short train.

It then pulls the cut of cars out of the yard to position it on the mainline for the KP&W Geep to take.

Watch the SW9 pull the cars but stop for a mainline train to Weehawken before proceeding.

After SW9 #8951 places the cars on the main, KP&W GP9 #769 moves out of the engine track to couple up to its train.

The Bloomberg run is ready to get underway

Heading for the Catskills!

An hour later, in one of Bloomberg's industrial parks, the KP&W sets out P&E boxcar #3638 at Catskill Mountain Press.

Moving on to Agway, the remaining four cars on this run are set out.

Back at West Mill the SW9 gets to work once more setting cars up for the KP&W.   These two gons of steel stock are for ACME Auto Parts.

G&MO boxcar #21129 is loaded with electrical components for Peerless Appliance

These cars will be forwarded to Mayfield on the next KP&W "turn" that arrives at West Mill.

Extra #110 from Mayfield arrives with a pair of F7As, drops cars off at West Mill and picks up others for the trip back.

The cars for Peerless Appliance and ACME are picked up.

Extra #110 heads out of West Mill.

The cars arrive at Mayfield Yard later in the day.  They will be sorted into a local to deliver the cars.

Two gons are set out at ACME Auto Parts....

...and G&MO 21129 is left at Peerless Appliance.

There are two more bits of work in this series on the KPD.   First is to forward KP&W #445052 loaded with silica sand to Corning Glass.  It is set out for the next KP&W Williams Yard to Binghamton transfer.

The next day the PS2 hopper finds itself at Corning Glass.

Finally, Canton Box Co. calls the West Mill Agent to inform him that they have unloaded PC 104478 and are ready for NYC 80775.

The exchange completed, SW9 8951 brings the empty PC boxcar back to West Mill Yard.  It will soon be set out at nearby GERN when their siding is clear.

That concludes the KPD's involvement in this series.  Check out the action on John's N.Y.C.T.L.   and Neal's A.P.R.R.

P.C.C.M. 66: Part 5 on the KPD

Hello there!

When we last left the Kings Port Division, trains from the N.Y.C.T.L. and the A.P.R.R. had dropped off cars at West Mill along with a cut of cars set out for the KP&W at Kings Port.

We'll start today by looking at the cars the Penn Central left at Kings Port for the KP&W which include the two coil cars, two gons, and a covered hopper below.

KP&W S12 #34 from Williams Yard arrives to deal with yesterday's set outs on the interchange track.

The Cargill covered hopper (TDLX 7241) loaded with wheat flour will be dropped off at Blue Ribbon Flour

See the switching action in the video below:

The two Evans Coil Coaches are next.  They will be set out at KP Steel after the S12 makes a run around move to get behind them.  After that the two gons loaded with pipe will be shoved into William Yard.

Watch more KP&W switching action in the video below:

Empty coil cars for Gervais Pipe and Fitting are set out at KP Steel.

Gondolas loaded with pipe for the Hudson Valley Ag Coop are being unloaded at Williams Yard.

Meanwhile over at West Mill, a joyous crew waits for LV boxcar #8427.  The car is loaded with baked goods from Freihofers for Pilgrim State Hospital but there is one pallet of their fabulous chocolate chip cookies reserved for the guys at West Mill as a gift from Rock Ridge in appreciation of their assistance with a recent derailment.

YUM!

After getting a nice sugar rush from the soft, easily edible cookies the crew gets back to workin' on the railroad!  A pair of early Geeps is being prepared as the West Mill Local to serve Reynolds Beverage Distributors, the Gulf Facility, and a power plant up river.

A Gulf tanker (WRMX 14285) and transfer caboose is placed in front of the power for an easy push into Gulf's facing spur.  The transfer caboose manned by Fingers O'Malley will protect the shove as it crosses streets along the way.

BAR # 5226 from Heilemans Brewery and PL&E #35892 from Star Liquor are placed behind the locos for easy access to the trailing spur at Reynolds Beverage Dist..

PC #104478 is added for Canton Box with drums of Drywell Ink

This transformer load from Bruce Electric on the PC depressed well flat will be delivered to Mid River Power in Kings Port

NYC boxcar #80775 is also destined for Canton Box Co. but will be constructively placed in the yard due to Canton's short spur that can only accommodate one car.  It will be delivered later.

Watch the West Mill Local leave West Mill Yard in the video below:

The tanker will be set out first after the transfer caboose is placed beyond the switch to the facility.

The Gulf facility waits for the tanker.

Backing up to access Gulf's spur

Watch the tanker get set out in the video below:

After setting out the tanker the train prepares to pull forward to access the switch to Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

The BAR car seen in the background...

...and the P&LE car seen on the right in the photo below are going to Reynolds.

To set out the two cars PC 104478 and the PC depressed well flat car are cut and left on the main.

After the train pulls ahead of the switch to Reynolds the brakeman aligns the points for the spur.

Watch the West Mill Local set out cars for Reynolds Beverage Dist.

That's the set outs here at Gulf and Reynolds Beverage Distributors.

The West Mill Local reconnects itself and heads a little further down the line to drop off the transformer.

Mid River Power is expanding to meet an increasing population.

The transformer will be set out here.

The Local returns to West Mill with a single car, PC #104478 for Canton Box Company.

Its an easy move to drop this car off.

The Local continues to Empire Grain where it will pick up four covered hoppers for Bloomberg's Agway.

Watch the West Mill Local pick up the covered hoppers at Empire Grain and bring them into West Mill Yard.

The four covered hoppers are coupled to P&E #3638 loaded with Drywell Ink for Catskill Mountain Press.   This cut meets the KP&W's required minimum of five cars  before it will make a run up the Mountain Branch to Bloomberg

Stay tuned for tomorrow's action as the KP&W delivers these cars and the rest that came from the A.P.R.R. and N.Y.C.T.L.
