PCCM 91: Part 3 on the KPD

Greetings!

We're well into our 91st Penn Central Car Movement "virtual ops" series involving John's New York Central Train Layout,  Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own Kings Port Division layout.

In the two previous installments my West Mill Yard dispatched two trains to Neal's APRR and gathered cars scheduled to be dispatched to John's N.Y.C.T.L.

We left off yesterday as the FP7/ GP38-2 power for the train carrying cars to the N.Y.C.T.L. had just arrived and coupled to its train.

The train is designated as WmV-5 (West Mill to Selkirk).  It will terminate at Selkirk Yard where cars will be humped and regrouped, with some added to a train for John's Terminal Yard.

Watch WmV-5 leave West Mill in the video below:

As the train heads north to Selkirk lets check out what's happening at the Boston & Maine's yard at Mechanicville, NY.....

....where a cut of four TOFCs is being moved for transfer to Selkirk Yard.   These cars will be heading to John's Terminal Yard for eventual delivery to REA at Empire City.

Watch the action at Mechanicville as B&M Train BM-7 from East Deerfield rolls through town on its way to Rotterdam Jct. in the background of the video below:

The four TOFCs are put on the next transfer from Mechanicville to Selkirk.  Watch the transfer roll out of town while D&H freight B-M3 arrives from Binghamton, NY.

Shifting our attention over to Selkirk....

....The transfer from Mechanicville arrives there later that morning with the TOFCs.

The TOFCs are cut from the transfer. They'll be added to a train to John's Terminal Yard that he will show in his "inbound" posts after WmV-5 arrives from West Mill with the other cars for the N.Y.C.T.L.

Speaking of WmV-5, the train is now arriving at Selkirk in the video below.

That concludes this weekend's outbound posts from the KPD.  Check back next week to see inbound trains from the N.Y.C.T.L. and the APRR reach West Mill with cars to be forwarded to their various consignees.  Be sure to check John and Neal's blogs to see what they are doing to keep the traffic moving!

PCCM 91: Part 2 on the KPD

 Hello!

We're in the "outbound" portion of our 91st Penn Central Car Movement series, a three layout virtual ops between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own Kings Port Division.

When we left yesterday the West Mill switcher was assembling the second train for Neal's APRR.   Now receiving its caboose, the train awaits today's assigned power.

Watch the pair of GP40s roll into the yard in the video below:

The locomotives couple to the front of the train for the APRR, now designated as Extra #3007.

The train backs out of West Mill Yard to access the mainline heading southbound to Weehawken.

After backing past the switch to the mainline the train proceeds to Weehawken and meets an incoming Cement Job with a string of loaded two bay hoppers.

Now that all of the cars for Neal's APRR have been sent on their way lets focus on the last cars to arrive at West Mill for John's N.Y.C.T.L.    Three need to come in to West Mill on a Northbound Local that was dispatched from West Mill earlier this morning.   After making a number of set outs it will pick up three cars, including two PS-2 covered hoppers at Hedberg Aggregates.

The train is cut behind this PC boxcar.  The Hedberg Spur is a little light for the heavy pair of RSD12s so the engineer is using a few cars on the train as buffers to pull the covered hoppers which are loaded with crushed aggregate for Lombo Concrete.

Watch the switching action in the video below.

The next stop is at the riverside Gulf Facility where it will pick up a GM&O boxcar loaded with barrels of oil for the Terminal Yard Engine Shops.

The boxcar is behind three tankers at the loading platform so it will take a bit of work to access it and then replace the tankers after the pick up.  Watch the action in the video below:

The pick up completed the Northbound Local has to wait for a KP&W RDC to run by before continuing to West Mill.

The RDC is heading to Mayfield from Williams Yard carrying mostly company employees as passengers. Watch the meet in the video below:

The Northbound Local arrives at West Mill with three more cars for the N.Y.C.T.L.

Now that all of the cars that are being sent from West Mill to the N.Y.C.T.L. are in the yard, its time for #8951 to get to work blocking the train.  The train may be rearranged later at Selkirk but separating cars into blocks for various industries in Empire city and for transfer to the LIRR should expedite things.

GM&O #2119 is loaded with barrels of oil for Terminal Yard Engine Shops.  BAR #5226 carries Cavendish Food packaged meals to Ralph's Grocery Warehouse

Green LV #66392 carries new 55 gallon drums from ACCO for Drywell inks.

Two NYC double door 50 ft boxcars are full of Peerless Appliance kitchen appliances for All City Storage

The large PC/TOC 50562, KP&W #503353, and NYC #53051 cars are loaded with ACME Auto parts for Ford.

PC depressed well flat #766053 is carrying a large roof top air conditioner for Suffolk Community College while PC gon # 288673 carries two tanks for West Chemical.

 Blocks are coupled together...

Power for this train designated as WmV-5 is an FP7/ GP38-2 lashup.  Watch it roll into West Mill Yard in the video below.

We'll stop here for today.  Tomorrow WmV-5 will be dispatched to Selkirk.   We'll also check out some transfer action from Mechanicville, NY to Selkirk Yard.

PCCM 91 Part 1 on the KPD

 Hello again!

We are starting our 91st Penn Central Car Movement virtual ops between three layouts this time;  John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own Kings Port Division.

Cars to be forwarded to Neal's APRR have been building up at West Mill.    They will be transferred in two trains to Weehawken for later forwarding to the APRR's Rock Ridge Yard.  The first train is a priority move of cars with perishable loads for ShopRite near Rock Ridge.

Yard switcher #8951 assembles the nine car train.  The three blue B&M RBLs are loaded with Habitant Soup from New Hampshire.  A Swift carload of frozen meat leads a second block of cars for ShopRite being coupled in front of them.

The switcher pulls a newly serviced N8 caboose for the train
...and tacks it onto the rear.

Power is called up for the priority run.  Watch the GP30/ SD35 consist roll past their train to get to the head end.

The Yard hostler operating this lashup of two units still sporting pre-merger livery switches tracks and couples to the front of the train.   Today's crew boards GP30 #2212.

Watch the train now designated as Extra #2212 back out of West Mill Yard in the video below.

Now positioned to take the mainline the train's brakeman throws the switch so Extra 2122 can proceed to Weehawken.

The manifest for this train includes:

APRR 60358 & 60327 with canned food from Van Winkle Canning

B&M #105, 109 and 110 with Habitant Soup

An EL boxcar loaded with Woodstock Hills Natural Soda

LV #7120 loaded with apples from Bucola Cold Storage

PC #272747 with Peerless Appliance refrigeration units

SLRX Swift #4244 loaded with frozen meat

Watch the train meet an incoming KP&W transfer run from Mayfield as it leaves West Mill for Weehawken in the video below.

After Extra 2212 to Weehawken is clear the Mayfield Transfer backs into West Mill Yard with cars for the N.Y.C.T.L.

Switcher #8951 ventures just outside of the Yard Limits to pick up a 50 foot Hoschton Railway Co. car loaded with boxes for Freihoefers.  This car will be going out on the second train for Neal's APRR.

Now that the Hoschton car is in the yard the second train for the APRR can be assembled into blocks.    Watch the yard work below as gons loaded with steel coils for Shapless Steel and boxcars for 3 Amigos Warehouse and C&P Restaurant Supply are coupled up to others destined for various industries near Rock Ridge Yard.

That's enough for now.  Check in tomorrow when the second train for Neal's APRR is dispatched and a Penn Central local brings more cars to West Mill Yard for John's N.Y.C.T.L.!
