P.C.C.M. 74: Pre-Series Post 1

Hi all!

We are anticipating the start of Penn Central Car Movement Series #74 on June 19th!  This latest virtual ops series will include my Kings Port Division,  John's  New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. .   There are several cars involved in this series so I thought I'd post about some pre-series movements that explain where some of the freight is coming from.

Starting with cars arriving "off-layout" from the B&M, a check at Williams Yard reveals a train arriving from New England. This is the B&M connection to the KP&W but the PC F unit is evidence of pooled or purloined power.

Included on this train are three B&M RBLs from Habitant Soup destined for Ralph's Grocery Whse. in Empire City.

The RBLs are followed by the patriotic State of Maine car #5226 loaded with blueberries from Circle B Farm for Empire Produce, and green LV boxcar #66392 loaded with bagged cement from Wescott Cement for American Hardware in Bedford Park.

The end of the train rolls into view.

The train is broken up at Williams Yard with cars for the N.Y.C.T.L. separated for delivery to the Penn Central Interchange in Kings Port

Speaking of the interchange, two coil cars with steel for Gervaise Pipe and Fittings have just been dropped off by the KP Steel yard hustler.

They join PC boxcar  #229046 loaded with Blue Ribbon cake mixes for Ralph's Grocery Whse.

Let's bounce around a little while we railfan.  Over at West Mill the KP&W's BiWi-4 (Binghamton to Williams Yard) transfer makes an intermediate stop to set out cars.   The BiWi is powered by an F7A&B set.

The block for West Mill is at the train's head end right behind the power, starting with LV  #7120 loaded with food from Tarantino Foods in Buffalo for Ralph's Grocery Whse.    It is immediately followed by LV #8247 loaded with batteries and electrical components from Delco of Flint, MI for Ford in Bedford Park.

Two small hoppers loaded with anthracite from the Kings Port & Western LV coal connection for RMO Electric, also on the A.P.R.R.
The red TPFX #5510 behind the hoppers was rerouted from N. Vancouver.   It was supposed to come down from Selkirk but a derailment west of Selkirk forced the car to be sent to Binghamton from Mechanicville on a D&H transfer. We just catch the tail end of that train as it leaves Mechanicville with the cool looking D&H caboose (a gift from Neal and John)
The TPFX car carries lumber for Mike's Lumber on the A.P.R.R.

PC 160502 is loaded with IBM business machines for Three Amigos Whse. on the A.P.R.R.

The BiWi comes to a stop at West Mill...

...cuts the block for set out...

...and backs the cars into West Mill Yard.

The block is cut and the F7 set returns to its train to resume the run to Williams Yard.

After the BiWi leaves, Train BLWM-2 arrives at West Mill from the Bloomberg Branch up the Catskills.  The action was captured on video by a local railfan.  Of note on this train are three cars for the virtual ops:  Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio #21129 loaded with bed frames from Quality Fabrications for Pilgrim State Hospital, and two NYC double door 50 foot boxcars full of TVs from Zenith for B. Gertz Whse. in Jamaica.   Watch the action in the video below:

That seems like enough for now.  Check out tomorrow's installment that will cover more Williams Yard action, the arrival of a KP&W transfer from Mayfield at West Mill, and local pick ups from West Mill Yard.

Acknowledge virtual ops freight cars being corralled by the Penn Central and Kings Port & Western for delivery to
    Rock Ridge and Terminal Yards.

    Terminal Yard out...

Well done Ralph!!! It's been a long time between P.C.C.M.s and this was an excellent post to get us in the right frame of mind. I really enjoyed seeing all the virtual ops freight cars making their way onto the K.P.D. The video was well done and the smoke effects a nice touch!
