P.C.C.M. 75: Part 5 on the KPD

 Hi Ho!

Time for the next installment of the Kings Port Division's participation in our 75th virtual ops series!

Some of the cars sent from John's New York Central Train Layout are being delivered to consignees.

Continuing from yesterday when the Mayfield Transfer was pulling out of West Mill with six auto parts cars among its manifest....

The transfer leaves West Mill

After arriving at Mayfield Yard the train is broken down for a KP&W local to deliver the six large cars to ACME Auto Parts.

Green LV Boxcar #66392, loaded with paint and related products from American Hardware is set out at Amalgamated Container

And, IC Boxcar #303130, loaded with Tea from Neubaums is dropped off at Cavendish Foods

That takes care of the delivery of cars from the N.Y.C.T.L. for Mayfield area industries.

Returning our focus back to West Mill, a Bloomberg run will carry only one virtual ops car from the N.Y.C.T.L. this time.    PC boxcar #360158, is loaded with wood cabinets for Zenith TV made by University Milling.  The rest of the train are "nonplayer cars" needed to meet the West Mill Yard minimum requirement of five cars for Blomberg before dispatching a train.

Watch the usual power for the Bloomberg Run (WMB-1), GP30 #2212 and GP20 #2107 couple up to the train and push it out of West Mill Yard in the video below.

WMB-1 has to hold before backing onto the mainline as a thru-coal train is expected shortly.  It stops at the crossing by Canton Box Co.

All is quiet for 20 minutes until the blare of an F7 horn alerts us that a train is arriving.

Watch as a unit train of empty coal hoppers led by a pair of B&O covered wagons from the KP&W's Williams Yard runs through West Mill.  The train, that will follow the KP&W's mainline toward Binghamton, is ultimately headed for the Genesee Coal docks in Rochester.  Usually these trains are pooled power runs with the KP&W but only B&O engines are at the head end today.   Typically the B&O units don't go farther east than West Mill but these two obviously made the trip to Williams Yard and are now heading home.

Once the KP&W/B&O train leaves West Mill, WMB-1 gets clearance to take the main and heads to Bloomberg.

After reaching Bloomberg the train sets out the one virtual ops car at Zenith TV across the tracks from Quality Fabrications.

Meanwhile back at West Mill Yard, a Gulf run with two tankers is managed by the yard's hard working SW9.

Watch the two tankers get set out at Gulf in the video below.  You will also see a KP&W S12 pick up TOFCs and an LV boxcar left on the interchange by the Penn Central for the KP&W's Williams Yard (seen in a previous post).

The cars from the interchange are brought into William Yard.

After the cut from the interchange is pulled into Williams Yard, a KP&W switcher adds LV boxcar #8247 to the next WiBi (Williams Yard to Binghamton)  that is being prepared on the departure track.

The TOFCs are moved to the unloading ramp.

We'll wrap it up here for today but we'll catch the dispatch of the WiBi and more tomorrow.   Y'all come back now..hear?

  2. Thanks Neal! The "shelf layout" interchangeable buildings are developing some personality.

Another fine installment Ralph!!! Great seeing the B&O power make an appearance in #75! WMB-1 GP30- GP20 consist fast becoming a rail fan favorite!!! ACME Auto Parts may have to go to a three shift work force to fill those emtpy extra large boxcars!

After reading the blog, looking at the photos and watching the videos again I noted the nice placement of the BM engines at West Mill and that I forgot to acknowledge the interchange of the LV car and TOFC cars with the KP&W.
