P.C.C.M. 76: Part 4 on the KPD

 Hey there railfans!

We're catching up on this 76th virtual ops series with John's New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R., along with my own Kings Port Division layout, forwarding cars across a thousand actual miles between our homes.

We left Extra #2228 at Kings Port yesterday after it exchanged cars with the KP&W interchange and then headed for West Mill

The train is now seen arriving at West Mill Yard.

The depressed well flat with the loaner excavator from Caterpillar has Sal Monella rubbing his hands.  Another freebie piece of equipment replacing the previous one that was supposedly "stolen".  FBI and local LEOs are taking a close look at this set of circumstances.  Sal is seen below watching his new excavator pass by.  It will soon be spotted on his scrap yard spur.  The rest of the train passes by Sal's Salvage.

The GP30 and pair of F7B units lead the train slowly into West Mill.
Cars include P&E 3638 for Port Owen Brick, Sal's excavator on PC Depressed well flat #766053,  PC boxcar #104478 loaded with Drywell ink for Catskill Mt. Press, A.P.R.R. #60538 and 50327 loaded with pallets for Van Winkle Canning from City Pallet, a pair of 38 foot hoppers with coal for Port Owen's Power Plant, and NYC Early Bird #90718 loaded with Prestige Gears for LaRoche Cycle.

A couple of hours later a horn is heard emanating from the tunnel portal at the south end of West Mill.

Watch some railfan video of the power at the head end of WV-2 (Weehawken to Selkirk) as it arrives at West Mill.  The videographer must really like those GP38-2s!.

Well, the video didn't include the rest of the train but here are some pics of the cut at the rear of WV-2 that will be set out at West Mill.

Red TPFX #5510 that was dispatched from the APRR's Rock Ridge Yard is staying on the train for the ride to Selkirk and will eventually arrive at John's Terminal Yard.  The West Mill cut will be uncoupled behind the red car.

Empire Belt R.R. #360279 is returned to West Mill after being "bad ordered" at Weehawken in the last series. Its load was transferred to an A.P.R.R. car.  Now in good repair, the car is ready for revenue service again and awaits a request from Terminal Yard.

The cut for West Mill also includes a Hoschton Railway Co. boxcar loaded with restaurant supplies from C&P Restaurant Supply for Battaglia Bros. Warehouse, and a Corning Covered hopper loaded with silica sand for Corning Glass Co.

A pair of corrugated PC gondolas loaded with steel coil stock from Shapeless Steel is headed to KP Steel for further processing.

Swift Reefer SRLX #4244 is returning to Swift Co. in Lawrence, MA via the KP&W/B&M connection at Williams Yard.

WV-2 leaves the cut behind for West Mill's trusty SW9 to pull into the yard.

Watch the switcher pull the string of cars off the siding in the video below:

The cars are pulled beyond the yard entrance near WM Tower.

Watch the cars get pushed into the yard in the video below:

Meanwhile over at Williams Yard, KP&W switchers are pulling in the cars left by the PC on the Kings Port interchange, including the TDLX Cargill covered hopper for Blue Ribbon Flour....

Four empty bread box trough coil cars for KP Steel and two NYC double door box cars loaded with toys for Battaglia Bros. Warehouse...

...Empire Belt and P&LE gons loaded with pipes for Hudson Valley Ag Coop.to be unloaded in the yard.

White LV 7120 is returning empty to Buffalo's Frontier Yard  from Empire Produce via the KP&W.  Three B&M RBLs are going back empty to Merrimack, NH after being unloaded at Ralph's Grocery Warehouse.

Williams Yard is filling up so its time for the yard switchers to get to work assembling trains.

And the same is true at West Mill!

We'll leave it here for today but tomorrow we'll follow along as all of these cars get delivered to their consignees!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

The engine consists the Penn Central used to move freight is very unique, as you’ve stated in the past. Great to see you keeping that tradition going strong. More Geeps on parade, the pair of GP3802’s making the move in West Mill; just neat to watch (twice!). Looks like the yards are full, which means profits will be forthcoming! Keep those freight cars moving!
