PCCM 110: Part 2 on the KPD

Hello!

We are continuing the "inbound" portion of our 110th Penn Central Car Movement series between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my Kings Port Division.

More freight cars will arrive at West Mill today for eventual forwarding to John and Neal's layouts.  Some will be brought in by a Yard Local powered by the yard's workhorse #8951which will pick up a boxcar at Canton Box along with the three PC RBLs that were set out on a siding by KP&W train BiWi-3 yesterday.

A string of empty hoppers will be delivered to West Mill Yard from Tri Mount Cement courtesy of the South Local which will be heading out to the cement plant with an F7A/ GP9 consist.  The South Local is taking some non-PCCM cars to various industries near Tri Mount Cement and will return with the empty hoppers later.  Crews can be seen heading toward the locomotives of both trains.

Watch the trains depart and then follow the Yard Local's work in the video below.

The PC #360063 boxcar picked up from Canton Box is loaded with packaging materials for C&P Restaurant Supply while the three Penn Central RBLs loaded with container board from International Paper Co. will be forwarded to Tropicana on Neal's layout.

The West Mill Yard Local has finished its work and now over at  Williams Yard the KP&W is dispatching a Yard Local of its own.  SW7s  #22 & #24 will take a transfer caboose out to pick up cars at Blue Ribbon Flour and Peerless Appliance.

The Yard Local heads out to do its work while a short "Steel Job" from KP Steel brings a couple of cars into the yard.

The PTTX #91913 bulkhead flatcar on the Steel Job is making its PCCM debut!  It is carrying steel slabs for Mid Island Steel on John's layout.

The PC plug door boxcar #360158 is loaded with Blue Ribbon flour for Hostess on John's layout while the empty NYC #80755 boxcar will be forwarded to Amalgamated Container Co. as an intra-layout move.

Lets go back over to West Mill as the #8951 is pulling a KP&W boxcar to add it to a cut of cars that will be set out for the next VW-1 to pick up to take south to Weehawken.  They will then be forwarded to Neal's Rock Ridge Yard from there.

Watch the #8951 couple the KP&W boxcar to the rest of the Rock Ridge cut while the South Local returns with six empty hoppers that will be going to Hedberg Aggregates as an intra-layout move.

Its time to set out the Rock Ridge cut as the next Penn Central transfer from Selkirk to Weehawken is expected in two hours.  While switcher #8951 is busy assembling cars in a block to transfer to Williams Yard...

...RSD12 #6865 takes responsibility for moving the Rock Ridge cut to a siding along the mainline for easy access by the expected VW-1.

Watch the RSD12 make the set out below:

The cut for Rock Ridge includes a KP&W boxcar loaded with bricks for American Hardware Supply, PC #360063 with packaging for C&P Restaurant Supply, three PC RBLS with container board for Tropicana,

...a Morton Salt covered hopper returning to the Morton facility in Rock Ridge, and two 38 foot coal hoppers for RMO Electric.

The cut awaits the imminent arrival of PC train VW-1 from Selkirk.

The U33C/GP38/GP20 consist prepares to uncouple from the train to pick up the cut for Rock Ridge Yard.

Watch the pick up below:

The VW-1 crew confers and prepares to leave for Weehawken after getting clearance from the Dispatcher in Kings Port.  Is that Emery leaning against the railing taking photos?  He does get around!

VW-1 departs West Mill behind three unit GE/EMD  power!

Also included for the APRR on the tail end of VW-1 is Swift reefer #4244 which is loaded with frozen meat for ShopRite in Rock Ridge.

That's it for today.  Come back tomorrow as the final cars for John's layout arrive at West Mil and are readied for pick up by WV-2 to Selkirk!

A switcher Saturday in the Catskills!!! The little engines earned big bucks and looked and sounded great doing so!!! The road engines weren't left out of the action either with some big power consists of first and second generation diesels working in harmony. The 8951 remains the true workhorse of the PCCMs!!! Williams Yard is fast becoming a favorite railfan location. The PTTX bulkhead looked great coming back from KP Steel with a load of steel slabs. A great way to make a PCCM debut. The PC RBLS and PC 360063 made for an excellent block of PC equipment. Acknowledge 1:87 Emery at Kings Port to catch the action. Can't blame him!!! Another excellent post Ralph!!!
