PCCM 110: Part 4 on the KPD

Hello again!

Welcome back to our 110th Penn Central Car Movement series between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my Kings Port Division!

This weekend we are focusing on the "inbounds" as trains we sent to each other will be seen arriving on our respective layouts with cars to be delivered to various consignees.

We're at Selkirk in time to observe PC train SK-5 arrive with a long string of cars from Terminal Yard for the Kings Port Division.    Train EV-4 from Enola is seen arriving shortly afterward.

The two cars at the head end, TPFX #5510 and Dresser Macobar car NIRX #42886 were cut from SK-5 to be forwarded to their scheduled destinations on other trains.  The red Triangle Pacific TPFX car is going to British Columbia while the Dresser Magcobar car will be forwarded to Texas.

The rest of the cars from Terminal Yard will be forwarded to the KP&W's Williams Yard in Kings Port and the Penn Central's West Mill Yard.  They leave Selkirk on PC train VW-1 to Weehawken.  An hour later VW-1 makes an intermediate stop at Kings Port to set out cars.  A pair of GP40s sandwiching a GP38-2 make up today's power.

VW-1's crew prepares to back several cars into the KP&W's Williams Yard.  The Kings Port Railfan Society with their trusty blue bug have finished breakfast at Dave's Diner just in time to enjoy the show!  The Ulster Ave. grade crossing is one of their favorite railfaning sites.

Watch VW-1 make the set outs at Williams Yard in the video below:

The string of empty hoppers seen in the video at Williams Yard is being prepared for the Hedberg Job, an upgrade shove to the aggregate plant in Marion, NY.   While VW-1's locomotives return to their train to continue their journey south, KP&W crews set up the Hedberg Job by coupling the specially equipped caboose to what will be its head end.

VW-1's power has returned to the front of their train and is pumping up the air in preparation for departure.  The NYC double door boxcar and the aging former Pacemaker boxcar will be set out at West Mill.

The KPRS guys are sticking around at Dave's Diner for more action!

They won't be disappointed as the Hedberg Job and VW-1 leave Kings Port at the same time.   The conductor in the KP&W caboose blows the air horn for the overpass.  VW-1 is later seen arriving at West Mill.

At West Mill a Penn Central trainman uncouples the two boxcars for set out.  The jade green 50 foot NYC boxcar will later ride the car float from West Mill to Port Owen with bagged iron ore for Port Owen Brick Co.   The Pacemaker will later be forwarded by the Bloomberg Turn to Catskill Mountain Press with its load of Drywell Ink.

VW-1's three locomotives set out the two cars for West Mill.

After the set out VW-1 leaves for Weehawken!

Switcher #8951 pulls the two cars from VW-1 into the yard.

Lets not forget the Hedberg Job!   Here it is arriving at the aggregate plant with its twelve empty hoppers.

The last action for today is to welcome Penn Central transfer WV-2 from Weehawken.   Included in its manifest today is a sizeable string of cars from Neal's Rock Ridge Yard to be set out at West Mill.

After coming to a stop WV-2's crewmen uncouple a cut of cars that will be set out at West Mill.

We get a good look at the long cut as it rolls by during the set out.

After setting out several cars at West Mill, WV-2's crew confer in front of their U33C before receiving permission to proceed to Kings Port.

WV-2 receives permission to proceed!

The cars behind the three locomotives, from the black HRC boxcar to the EBRR gondola loaded with pipes, represent the cut for the KP&W's Williams Yard.    The two white LV boxcars are PCCM cars heading for Selkirk for eventually forwarding to other locations.

That's it for today!  Check back tomorrow to follow the WV-2 set out of cars for Williams Yard and more action!

    Terminal Yard out...

The River Line was busy today!!!! Nice job getting the east and west bound PCCM traffic to their respective destinations with a nice showcase of motive power as well. The EV-5 power was a very nice choice. The KPRS gang was rewarded at the Ulster Ave hotspot with KP&W and PC moves. Not a bad way to digest a meal from Dave's Diner!!! I liked the two Geeps on the Hedberg Job and seeing the 8951 once again handling West Mill Yard duties. Great job all around Ralph!!!
