P.C.C.M. 41H: Second train with cars for West Mill

Greetings readers!

The second train dispatched from the New York Central Train Layout's Terminal Yard with cars for West Mill is about to arrive.  It actually has only three cars for West Mill and the rest will continue southward to Weehawken to be forwarded to Rock Ridge Yard on Neal's Atlantic Pacific Railroad.

Meanwhile, at West Mill, a Kings Port & Western Transfer run from Mayfield Yard to Williams Yard in Kings Port slows to stop at a red signal..

The KP&W Transfer Run has been held for the arrival of VW-1 (Selkirk to Weehawken).   This train is powered by U28C #6533 which headed the train from Terminal Yard, but its sister U Boat was reassigned and replaced with GP38-3 #8045.

As VW-1 approaches WM Tower, Sal Monella and one of his "associates" cross the tracks by Sal's Salvage to watch the train go by.  Sal knows his newly repaired Caterpillar excavator is on a depressed well flat car on this train and he wants to check it out.
.
The power approaches the entrance to West Mill Yard as...

...Several loaded coal hoppers for the R.M.O. Electric power company roll by...

...as do some of the distinctive white A.P.R.R. boxcars.

Speaking of distinctive cars, this Morton Salt covered hopper is returning empty from Ronzoni (makers of fine pastas) to the Morton Salt facility served by the A.P.R.R.

The block of three cars to be set out at West Mill appears toward the end of the train, starting with the depressed well flat and Sal's CAT, followed by...

...a NYC covered hopper for Empire Grain, and a drop end mill gon loaded with scrap wheels for Sal's Salvage

Once the train stops, yard switcher SD9 #6922 gets the call to pull the cars for West Mill.

The SD9 couples onto the drop end mill gon, and after the West Mill cars are cut from the train....

...sets them out in the yard next to yesterdays cars from VWM-1.

The West Mill Cut removed, VW-1 prepares to continue its journey to Weehawken.

As their train builds up air pressure while waiting for the green, the crew quickly runs over to get some ice cream from Ralph's Pretty Good Grocery.

The signals change and permission is given to proceed.  VW-1 heads out of West Mill.   The engineer wipes the last vestiges of his ice cream cone from his fingers before notching up the throttle.

The always eye-catching Morton Salt car slowly rolls by and the train is soon gone.

Now that VW-1 is clear, the KP&W Transfer Run gets the OK to proceed to Kings Port.   The guys in the F7A have been waiting for a while!

Taking the mainline...

Passing WM Tower....

...and leaving town.

All the cars dispatched from Terminal Yard for West Mill have arrived.   Next up will be yard work to create the four trains needed to deliver them to their respective consignees.

Thanks for reading!

Nice work on the arrival of cars to West Mill. It looks like the crew in West Mill is well taken care of with Ice Cream after all that work. Lucky Guys! The A.P.R.R. crew will be ready for the train when it arrives at Weehawken.
