Our virtual ops group is running another "time traveler" op in which rolling stock from different eras will be included in our forwarding of cars...this time in support of the automobile manufacturing industry!
John R.'s New York Central Train Layout is the location of a large Ford Motor Company that will be supported by various auto parts cars and auto racks from other layouts involved in this series.
The Kings Port Division doesn't see auto racks but railfans do periodically observe auto parts cars roll by. Case in point, a Kings Port & Western local out of Mayfield Yard picks up cars from local industries such as ACME Auto Parts.
GP9 #761 is in charge as it picks up five cars at ACME
The aging Pacemaker might seem out of place among the larger special auto parts cars but it was last sent from Walsh Steel wool with a load of muffler mesh, and was quickly reloaded at ACME with...mufflers!
The 60 foot auto parts cars and a PC Hi Cube are pulled...
The next morning KP&W RS3 #566 heads the transfer run to West Mill with auto parts cars immediately behind the ALCO.
The cars are backed into a West Mill yard track...
Our view of the RS3 is blocked by the departure of a Kings Port Turn powered by my latest acquisition and painting project, GP7 #5628.
The train includes two new cars on the Kings Port Division, this Hoschton Railway Company boxcar provided by the team of John R. and Neal in honor of our late friend Engineer Ed...
...and an Empire Belt gondola with pipe load!
As five auto parts cars wait at West Mill we turn our railfan eyes to Kings Port where a run to the KP&W's Williams Yard by Penn Central Extra #7085 headed by a GP9 still in its PRR scheme rolls by.
The train includes three Lehigh Valley cars. The last one is a recent train show purchase increasing the roster as I'm trying to convey an LV connection with the KP&W at Mayfield.
A seldom seen PRR cabin car brings up the rear.
Once the PC extra has passed and entered Williams Yard the crew of a pair of KP&W switchers waiting by the William Yard office prepares to take on the Steel Job at nearby KP Steel.
The pick ups are a mix of loaded coil cars and empty gons.
The gons were part of a long scrap train that was featured in a previous P.C.C.M.
Later in the afternoon a transfer run from Williams Yard to West Mill arrives with a KP&W SD9 powering the train long hood forward.
Two more LV cars, recent eBay wins, are seen on this train.
Two loaded coil cars for Ford come into view
Yard switcher SD9 #6925 fires up to assemble a cut of cars to be picked up by a northbound train from Weehawken to Selkirk.
The coil cars are cut and moved to the next track to join the auto parts cars from Mayfield.
The cut of seven cars for Ford is moved to a siding off the mainline for the Selkirk bound train to pick up.
After passing WM tower....
...The PC SD9 pushes the cars on to the pick up track.
The cars for Ford are ready for pick up.
A couple of hours later the train from Weehawken appears at the south end of West Mill, changing tracks to pick up the cut for Ford.
The train slows as it approaches the Ford cut.
The U33C and GP38-2 separate from the train to pick up the cut.
Coupled up, the consist pulls the Ford cut to couple it up with the rest of the train.
Backing up, the train is completed...
...and gets the go ahead to proceed to Selkirk with cars for this auto industry virtual ops.
Thanks for taking a look!

Where to start! And this is a 'prequel'? Wow! There's so much action I think you would need multiple crews to handle all the moves! Nice finds at the shows and EBay. Glad to see other roads joining in the action. Nice new engine additions as well.
Excellent segment! I liked the 2 switcher lash up for the steel job. Good to see that old well weathered Pacemaker still earning its keep.
ReplyDeleteWow, Cappy Foster and his crew were hard at getting all of those arrivals and deliveries sorted out. Your new GP7 project really looks sharp as well! Really enjoyed the post and seeing all of the great action on the Kings Port Division!
