P.C.C.M. 60: 4th post from the KPD. Trains arrive with virtual ops cars.

Hi all,

P.C.C.M. 60 has reached the point where cars dispatched by John R.'s,  John B.'s, and Neal's layouts are reaching my Kings Port Division.   This time cars are coming by land and sea...so to speak.  The first rolling stock to reach the KPD is Hoschton Railway Company boxcar #947318, a tribute to our late friend Engineer Ed who freelanced the HRC on his layout.

The car, loaded with fine wine from Jaques Vintners on John B.'s layout, is seen below on John's West Egg Carfloat.

After completing its voyage the float ties up at West Mill.  PC SD9 #6925 fires up to pull cars off the float.

A pair of flat cars serve as spacers to cross the car float apron.

The HRC car is the first to be puled.   It also has the distinction of being the first virtual ops boxcar to arrive at West Mill via barge in a P.C.C.M. series.

Its late in the afternoon by the time the car is off the float.

Later that night a pair of shadowy characters attempt to break into the boxcar to steal some of the valuable wine!

But, they were quickly apprehended.   Investigators are looking into a possible connection between the thieves and local nefarious character Sal Monella but the suspects are wisely keeping their mouths shut.  Sal, who receives expedited personal rail service from West Mill, allegedly because a few C-Notes change hands, comments "I don't mess where I eat"...or words to that effect.

The car and its contents safe and secure will be delivered to Reynolds Beverage Distributors tomorrow.

The next morning a run from Selkirk (VWM-4) makes a stop at the KP&W's Williams Yard on its way to West Mill.  The train is headed by a GP30 still wearing NYC livery and two PC GP40s.

The first block is composed of six loaded coal hoppers from Hudson Coal on John R.'s layout for the KP Steel's furnace

...also including two cars loaded with ore for KP Steel from T&R Gravel on the New York Central Train Layout.

The second block is a mixed manifest of cars from John R.'s N.Y.C.T.L.   The P&E car #3638 is loaded with a milling machine for Blue Ribbon Flour from Reliable Machine while PC gon #288673 carries a load of pipe from Gervais Pipe and Fitting for the Hudson Valley Ag. Coop.

PC boxcar #229036 is full of printed labels for Van Winkle Canning from Berk enterprises.

B&M RBLs #109 and 110 are loaded with University Millwork cabinets for Zenith TV in Bloomberg.

These three NYC double door boxcars have been loaded with cable and electrical equipment from Bruce Electrical Supply for IBM in Binghamton.

...and finally this former NYC Early Bird service car sporting a jade green replacement door is loaded with Walsh Steel Wool intended to be used as reinforcement for concrete at Booms Ready Mix.

The train slows to a stop and the first block is cut behind the last hopper for KP Steel.   The string of hoppers will be shoved into the KP&W's Williams Yard to be delivered later to KP Steel by the "Steel Job"

Williams Yard waits for the hoppers.

After the hoppers are set out,  PC #288673 with its load of pipe is set out to be unloaded for the H.V.A.C.

The set outs at Williams Yard completed the GP30/ GP40s consist returns to its train and leaves Kings Port for West Mill.

Watch the three short videos below of the Penn Central train setting out the hoppers,  P&E car #3638, and PC gon #288673 in Williams Yard and then heading to West Mill.

The crew gets off and ties up the train's power.

Later in the day WV-2 (Weehawken to Selkirk) stops at West Mill to drop off two cars.

The train is headed by an F7A-B consist

WV-2 is pulling KP&W cars 644450 and 6435055, empty for Peerless Appliance

The train slows to a stop at West Mill

The KP&W cars are cut from the train and dropped off at West Mill Yard for eventual interchange with the KP&W

The rest of WV-2 heads back to re-couple to its train for the run to Selkirk

That completes the accounting of cars coming to the Kings Port Division for this 60th series!

Stay tuned as future posts feature the final delivery of these cars to their consignees.

Happy to see history being made with the HRC boxcar being the first boxcar to arrive at West Mill via the car float! Nice job by the RR Bulls nabbing the would be wine thieves!!! Way to go five-O!!! Photos and videos all well done as usual. Sound effects were perfect. Another PCCM Hall of Fame entry!!!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Very nice lead in story. Always nice to see a tribute to our dear departed friend Ed. The story that goes with the car is hysterical, very nice! Your car float is always impressive to see and how you use it.

    1. Thanks Neal! Thought I'd have some fun with the idea of a car load of wine just sitting there.
