P.C.C.M. 67: Part B

Hello everyone!

As we approach the last virtual ops series of the year we've decided to run a coal op between John's  New York Central Train Layout , Neal's  Atlantic Pacific R.R.  and my Kings Port Division.   Neal's RMO Electric is in dire need of coal so the Atlantic Pacific RR has dispatched a coal train of empty hoppers from his Rock Ridge Yard.  It will see a motive power and crew change at Weehawken and then run to West Mill to pick up more empty cars and drop off a couple.  The long string of empty hoppers will then be forwarded to Selkirk and eventually to Terminal Yard on the New York Central Train Layout.  From there cars will be forwarded to Hudson Coal for loading.

We'll take a look at some Kings Port Division action prior to the arrival of the train dispatched from Rock Ridge.

Things are pretty quiet at West Mill at 07:30

The only work that needs to be done is to pull these empty hoppers off the car float that just arrived from Port Owen.

The yard's SD9 #6925 carefully handles the job of pulling the cars off the float .

...and sets them on the next track for later pick up by the Kings Port & Western to transfer to Mayfield Yard..

At 11:10 horns are heard blaring from the south side of town as KP&W Coal Extra #160 arrives with empty hoppers from the Genesee coal docks.  The leading KP&W F7A is pooled with two F7As from the B&O, a coal movement partner in the western part of New York.

The B&O units are always popular with local railfans.

Watch the KP&W train arrive at West Mill in the video below:

After cutting its caboose the train backs its coal cars into West Mill

Watch the three F units shove the empties into West Mill in the video below:

After setting out the hoppers, the three F units pull forward and run to the engine service track.

Running on time and arriving at 14:00 hours is Penn Central Coal Extra #1805.   This train originally ran as A.P.R.R. Extra #302  to Weehawken where a crew and Penn Central power change now has it designated as Extra #1805.

Second generation power at Weehawken was limited today so the train was assigned an F7A/F7B/GP9B lashup to take it to Selkirk.

Watch this train roll into West Mill in the video below:

Stopping at West Mill the consist is cut so it can pull the empty hoppers left earlier by KP&W Coal Extra #160.

Watch the three unit consist back into West Mill Yard and pick up the empty hoppers left by the KP&W in the video below:

The hoppers left by the KP&W are pulled from the yard ...

.... and added to the train to Selkirk.

The long train extends the length of West Mill Yard.

Before it leaves, a couple of cars are being pulled off the back end to be included with the car float's empties that will head to Mayfield and the LV's coal connections.

The two KP&W hoppers are removed from the train to be added to the string headed to Mayfield.

Penn Central Coal Extra #1805, having picked up cars from the KP&W and set out cars for Mayfield, is ready to roll.  After obtaining permission to proceed it heads out of West Mill, bound for Selkirk.   Watch the train leave in the video below:

Next stop: Selkirk!

Today's Afternoon Turn from Mayfield arrives at West Mill running light with pooled KP&W and LV power.   Railfans note this makes four railroad liveries seen at West Mill today!

Cutting the caboose to pick up the cars from Port Owen and the two from Rock Ridge.

Watch the KP&W/LV consist pull empty hoppers from West Mill Yard in the video below:

After a run around move the Turn heads back to Mayfield with empties in tow.

That concludes this installment from the Kings Port Division.   Remember to check Neal's blog to see where the cars on Extra #1805 originally came from and John's blog  to see where they are going!

Well done on the coal train! There's so much action going on for just one move! Talk about train consists! PC F units and a GP dummy, KP&W and LV color, and of course, no move would be complete without the NYC switcher. Very enjoyable watching your videos!
