P.C.C.M. 80: Part 3 on the KPD

 Hello again!

Continuing this three layout virtual ops between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own King Port Division we find ourselves at a busy West Mill Yard.

SW9 #8951 is hard at work assembling a train for Neal's A.P.R.R.  The PC powered train will stop at Weehawken where cars will be interchanged with Neal's road.

PC boxcar #160502 was loaded at IBM with business machines.  It is headed to Three Amigos Warehouse.

LV NIRX #41000 carries Blue Ribbon Bagged flour for Freihofers.  Its about to be coupled with LV #8247 which is full of Delco batteries and electrical components for IDEAL Auto.

PC #360063 Was loaded with packaging at Canton Box Co. for C&P Restaurant Supply.

KP&W boxcar #30112 and its mate #30115 (not pictured) were loaded with catalytic converter assemblies for IDEAL Auto.

Caboose #24520 is tacked onto the rear of the cut for the A.P.R.R.

The crew is seen boarding GP9 #7175, the power for this short train

Watch Extra 7175 to Weehawken back out of West Mill Yard

The Extra pauses at WM Tower to receive orders.

Watch Extra 7175 leave for Weehawken in the video below:

SW9 #8951 gets to work on the second train of the morning.  It will be an extra to Selkirk with cars for John's N.Y.C.T.L.   IC #30130 is loaded with canned food from Van Winkle Canning for Pilgrim State Hospital.  PC #104478 in front of it is full of bagged GERN cement flux for Lombo Concrete.  These cars will join others in an L.I.R.R. block on this train

Depressed center well flat PC #766053is carrying an oversized load, a large air conditioning unit from Peerless Appliance for Suffolk Community College.

E.B.R.R. #509823 is loaded with ACCO storage tanks for West Chemical.

These two 38 foot hoppers are loaded with Hedberg Aggregate for the NYS DOT Region #10 project.

Three auto parts cars from ACME Auto Parts for Ford:  PC/TOC #50562,...

and NYC #53051, and KP&W #503353.

Two NYC 50 ft. double door boxcars loaded with Peerless Appliance kitchen appliances are heading to All City Storage.

A third one loaded with Port Owen bricks will be forwarded to Neal's Lumber and Hardware.   A pair of Gulf tankers next to the NYC car are carrying diesel fuel for Terminal Yard's engine yard.

On the second track in the background three cars for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse form their own block.  NYC Early Bird #90718 (with the green door) is loaded with kitchen gadgets and food storage containers from REVCO.  PC boxcar #77047 is packed with pallets of Woodstock Hills Natural Soda.  (Cases of Asparagus/lime flavor!  Yum).   The BAR car is full of Cavendish Foods packaged meals (how about a little Spotted Dick with that Woodstock Hills soda!?).

Once the train is fully assembled, the power for this train, an SD35/ GP30 consist are called to haul it out of the yard.  Watch the power for Extra #2228  couple up to its train in the video below:

Watch extra 2228 leave west mill in the video below:

The Extra arrives at Kings Port where it will pick up a P&LE drop mill gon and two spacer flats carrying an oversized bridge girder load for NYS DOT Region #10.   These cars were dropped off at the interchange by KP Steel the other day.

The train is cut in front of the two hoppers also headed to the DOT #10 Region so the bridge girder can be blocked with them.

The locomotives approach the cars on the interchange...

 ...and make the pick up.

Watch the train back the extra long load into the rest of the train and then leave for Selkirk in the video below:

Our virtual ops car forwarding patterns are determined by what we call the Rail Traffic Management Form which describes multiple cycles for each car.    As an epilogue lets take a look at some of the many intra-layout moves the form had in store for me this series.

GM&O #21129 was moved empty from Peerless Appliance to the Gulf facility to be loaded with drums.

PS2 covered hoppers PC #883190 and KP&W 445052 were sent empty from Corning Glass Co. to be set out at Hedberg Agregates

The former NYC Pacemaker, empty from Agway will be forwarded to Amalgamated Container Co.  The NYC Hi Cub #173861 behind it was pulled empty from Reynolds Beverage Distributors and will head to Peerless Appliance.

PC #229046 is heading empty from Van Winkle Canning to International Paper.

Swift SRLX 4244 is returning empty to the Swift Company in Massachusetts.    Shhhh!  Don't tell West Mill Yardmaster Cappy foster but this car should have been included on Extra #2228 where it could have been forwarded to Mechanicville from Selkirk for its journey back to New England!  Whoops!

It gets there the next day on another train...no harm done!  :)

I hope you enjoyed following the action in our 80th series, both on the Kings Port Division and on John and Neal's layouts. Moving cars "virtually" over a thousand miles to each other's layouts is one of the great joys of the hobby!

    Terminal Yard out...

Nice job on the closing outbound installment!!! Terminal Yard is standing by to receive the freight consist of Extra 2228. sadly they'll cut off that good looking PC caboose before sending the freight consist out. The coincidental caprice of the RTMF put those NYC double door boxcars in the same train a lot sooner than I expected! Well done Ralph! Looking forward to the inbound!

Nice sendoff for both outbound trains. I like your recap at the end as well as some ‘misplaced’ freight cars. Yes, these virtual op sessions that we all enjoy is what keeps our hobby unique and fun! Looking forward to the inbounds!
