P.C.C.M. #82: Part 1 on the KPD

Hello and welcome back!

Its time for us to start another Penn Central Car Movement Series of virtual operations between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my own Kings Port Division!   This installment and the next two from the KPD will feature "outbound" moves of cars headed toward the other two layouts.

Our car movements are directed by a multiple page document we call the Rail Traffic Management Form which describes their cycles traveling from yard to industry and back again.   A built-in randomness creates varied traffic patterns and this time the KPD has it pretty easy with fewer cars heading out this series compared to others.

It starts with the Kings Port Turn out of West Mill Yard picking up cars at the interchange and heading back home.    The Turn's RSD12 #6869 pulls PC #160502 loaded at Battaglia Brothers Warehouse for All City Storage on John's N.Y.C.T.L.   As so few virtual ops cars are scheduled to leave the KPD this series trains are padded with additional "nonplayer" cars like those behind #160502.

After picking up cars from the interchange the train backs into the rest of its train and prepares to leave.

Watch the Kings Port Turn depart in the video below.

Before reaching West Mill the Turn stops at the riverside Gulf Facility to pick up two tank cars full of fuel for Ford Motor Co. on the N.Y.C.T.L.

The Turn heads back to West Mill after grabbing the tankers.   Things are soon going to get busy around West Mill.  Another train, the Bloomberg Turn, has arrived at West Mill but holds on the branch...

...while the Kings Port Turn is now seen arriving.

Watch the Kings Port Turn arrive and enter West Mill Yard

The Bloomberg Turn continues to wait.  This time its for the returning "Cement Job".

Watch the Cement Job roll by the Bloomberg Turn in the video below:

The Cement Job has stopped just beyond the switch accessing West Mill Yard.   The virtual ops cars on this train are the six empty coal hoppers.

Watch the Cement Job back into the yard while the Bloomberg Turn finally gets clearance to proceed and enter the yard as well.

The Cement Job's cars now sit next to those brought in by the Kings Port Turn.

With these cars secured the yard's SW9 prepares to head out for a one car move at Reynold's Beverage Distributors in lower Kings Port.

The car at Reynolds could not be picked up by the Kings Port Turn as it sits on a "facing siding" the Turn couldn't access.

The Hoschton boxcar is loaded with beer and wine for C&P Restaurant Supply on Neal's layout.  Here it crosses Ulster Ave...

...before later being brought into West Mill Yard.

That will do it for today!  Tomorrow's installment will feature Kings Port & Western trains bringing more car to West Mill!

    Terminal Yard out...

While the caprice of the RTMF has a smaller number of outbound cars from the KPD in this outbound series the action was still first rate and very, very enjoyable. I think I saw "Fingers O'Malley" riding the PC transfer caboose on the Kings Port Turn. Say hi for me! The "Cement Job" is a serious train with a nice number of freight cars. The "Bloomberg Turn" engineer had to cool his heels for a bit. I doubt he'll bring that up with Cappy! Another enjoyable look at the train movements in and around West Mill!!!

    1. Thanks John! That was indeed "Old Head" Fingers O'Malley on the transfer caboose platform. He hates those utilitarian hacks as much as Big Mike does! I'm liking the new Cement Job train a lot and look forward to expanded cement ops in the future! The PC hoppers aren't new. I think this may be one of the first times they were featured as not part of a longer coal train.

  2. Nice start to the series. Neat trick trains moving in opposite directions with a DC layout! My own small 9x12 layout had nearly 40 electrical blocks and 4 throttles. It's not quite DCC but pretty close to realistic ops! As always, your sounds are extraordinary.

    1. Thanks! Yep! Electrical blocks and two throttles make the magic on this DC layout! I can imagine that with all those blocks and four throttles your layout could easily rival the action of DCC!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Great start to #82! The cement job train is very impressive. I’m sure Tri-Mount Cement will be very profitable in the future. Just because this series of outbound is light, there’s great moves as seen in your videos!
