P.C.C.M. 82: Part 5 on the KPD

 Hello again!

We're working the "inbounds" portion of our virtual op between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R., and my own Kings Port Division.

Yesterday several cars from Terminal Yard arrived at Kings Port on Advance SK-7, the first of two trains from the N.Y.C.T.L.   While cars on that train were set out in the Kings Port area, today's SK-7 is bound for West Mill.

Here is a photo of SK-7 leaving the N.Y.C.T.L with its early merger PRR F units in front of a PC GP30.

Watch SK-7 roll through Kings Port with the same consist in the video below:

A half hour after passing through Kings Port, hard pulling SK-7 can be seen reaching Marion, the Division summit where Hedberg Aggregates is located.

After overcoming the summit the train takes the downgrade glide to West Mill.

Watch SK-7 arrive at West Mill in the video below:

While SK-7's crew ties down their train at West Mill, loud U33C horn blasts from WV-2, a Weehawken to Selkirk run, rattle the windows of Ralph's Pretty Good Grocery.

This train includes a block of cars forwarded by Rock Ridge Yard on Neal's A.P.R.R.  The cut for West Mill is at the rear of the train for easy set-out.   Swift Reefer SRLX #4244 is actually going to continue its journey on WV-2 to Selkirk where it will be transferred to Mechanicville to be included on a train to Lawrence, MA.  Following the Swift reefer PC #360063 is loaded with packaging materials from C&P Restaurant Supply for Cavendish Foods.

The short A.P.R.R. hopper #9416 will be delivered empty to Hedberg Aggregates...

The West Mill block ends with rib sided KP&W boxcars #644450 & 644455 loaded with C&P food stuffs for Cavendish.

WV-2 stops at West Mill and the set outs are cut from the caboose...

...and placed on the next siding.

The rest of WV-2 backs into its caboose with the Swift car now at the rear.  Once coupled up WV-2 continues its journey to Selkirk.

Swift SRLX #4244 is later seen at Mechanicville on a PC/B&M train to Massachusetts.

Now that all of the cars dispatched from the N.Y.C.T.L. and the A.P.R.R. have arrived on the Kings Port Division its time to start forwarding them to their consignees.   The KP&W gets the ball rolling by including the two NYC double door boxcars for IBM from Bruce Electric on its WiBi Transfer Run from Williams Yard to Binghamton, NY.

The KP&W/ B&O pooled power is ready to couple up to the train in Williams Yard.

Watch the WiBi leave Kings Port and later run through West Mill in the video below

After arriving in Binghamton the two NYC cars are put on a local the next day and delivered to IBM.

That's it for today!  Tune in tomorrow as West Mill sends out a Northbound local!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

When train SK-7 was going thru West Mill, the car float always catches my eye! Then, the 86’ Auto Parts cars rounding that curve? Very impressive! Very enjoyable video of the WiBi train leaving Kings Port and thru West Mill.

    1. Those 86 foot auto cars give Cappy the Yardmaster fits. The lead to West Mill has always been a little tight and he keeps having dreams of needing to call out the big hooks whenever they arrive! So far so good though!

Way to go Ralph!!! SK-7 and WV-2 look great bringing PCCM cars from North and South to West Mill. WIBI with pooled KP&W -B&O F7s is fast becoming one of my favorite trains to see, especicallywith thatnice block of KP&W boxcars. I really liked the scene for Mechanicville which is another fine example of the layout extending beyond the basement. Nice Job!!

  3. Thanks John,

The four F7s run so well together and give the B&O a chance to make a regular appearance! The B&O connection, the Mechanicville scene, and the entire virtual ops with the N.Y.C.T.L. and A.P.R.R. help give me the impression that my layout extends far beyond the basement walls!
