Welcome back to our 96th Penn Central Car Movement "virtual ops" series between John's New York Central Train Layout, Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R., and my own Kings Port Division
We're beginning our "inbound" posts this weekend in which trains arrive on our layouts with cars to be forwarded to various consignees. Last weekend John dispatched PC train SK-5 from his Terminal Yard for Selkirk. Watch the long train with its FP7/F7B/FP7 consist arrive at Selkirk and meet an outgoing train for the Boston & Albany line in the video below:
After the train arrives two cuts are removed from the former SK-5. One will be for the next VB-1 to Buffalo which now includes TPFX #5510 returing to British Columbia, the Dresser Magcobar car returning to Texas, and LV cars #7120 and 8247, both returning to Frontier Yard. VB-1 is seen departing Selkirk below:
The second cut removed from SK-5 is the block of four TOFCs and the three B&M RBLs. They have been added to train NY-20 from Selkirk to Mechanicville, NY. The Swift reefer that arrived at Selkrk on WKV-4 (last week) has been included on this train as well. All of the cars on NY-20 will be forwarded to New England by the B&M.
Watch NY-20 leave Selkirk and arrive at Mechanicville while a D&H/KP&W pooled power TC-99 holds for clearance to run to Binghamton, NY.
Meanwhile the cars sent to the Kings Port Division on SK-5 from John's N.Y.C.T.L. have been rolling their way to Kings Port on train VKW-5 with the same FP7/F7B/FP7 consist at the head end.
It should arrive at Kings Port soon. While waiting at Ulster Ave for the train's arrival we're passing the time by observing a KP&W maintenance crew working on a crossing signal.
Watch VKW-5 arrive at Kings Port in the video below:
The train will be setting out five cars on the PC/KP&W interchange; three gons of scrap for KP Steel's Basic Oxygen Furnace, a Corning covered hopper that the KP&W will forward to Corning Glass, and PC #360158 loaded with Superior Furniture for Battaglia Bros. Warehouse. A crewman makes the cut behind the Corning car.
Watch the set out in the video below:
The cars have been left on the interchange for the KP&W to deal with later.
After setting out the cut for the KP&W VKW-5 continues on its way to West Mill.
Before it arrives at West Mill a crew has been assigned to a small Cement Job for Tri Mount Cement. The six PS-2 hoppers that arrived from Binghamton in last week's installment are being forwarded as an intra-layout move.
A transfer caboose is tacked onto the rear of the string of hoppers. Conductor Fingers O'Malley will inhabit this steel box on wheels.
The job's power is GP9 #7085 which so far has escaped full application of the PC livery. PRR fans are hopeful it will never happen!
The train backs out of the yard and holds on a siding to wait for the imminent arrival of VKW-5.
Watch VKW-5 arrive in the video below:
As soon as VKW-5 entered the yard the Cement Job receives clearance to leave.
That's it for today! Come back tomorrow as more trains are dispatched to deliver cars to their consignees
To: West Mill / Rock Ridge
