PCCM 85: Part 3 on the KPD

 Greetings all!

This is the third and final "outbound" installment from the Kings Port Division for this 85th series of Penn Central Car Movements otherwise known as the "virtual ops" between my layout, John's New York Central Train Layout, and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R..

Yesterday we observed the crew board this three unit consist of a PC FP7, a PRR F7A, and a PC F7B in preparation for a run to Selkirk where the cars on this train will be placed on a freight to Terminal Yard in Empire City on John's layout.

Watch the train now designated as Extra 4362 leave West Mill in the video below:

In anticipation of Extra 4362's arrival at Kings Port the KP&W has moved cars destined for the NYCTL to the interchange tracks there for pick up.  The Extra finds them set out when it arrive in Kings Port.

They include four TOFCs and a 40' Hoschton Railway car.  The Extra's power uncouples from the train, couples up to the TOFCs...

...and then shoves the cut of trailers into the HRC car waiting near the KP& office building.

The locomotives run around the interchange cars to get in front of them and back them into the rest of the train.

KP Tower reports clearance for Extra 4362 to proceed to Selkirk.  Watch the train leave in the video below:

With the train for John's layout on its way lets turn our attention to a cut of cars destined for Rock Ridge Yard on the APPR.

The cut includes only four cars this time.  Our virtual ops traffic generating tool known as the Rail Traffic Management Form schedules varied amounts of traffic between layouts from series to series.  Sometimes one layout will move a lot more cars than the others.  Traffic is light from the KPD to the APRR this time around.  We refer to this as the "caprice of the RTMF!"

The cars include KP&W #30112 & 30115 from Quality Fabrications loaded with catalytic converter assemblies for Ideal Auto Parts and Empire Belt #360279 from International Paper loaded with bulk paper for Marcal Paper....

...along with this NYC double door boxcar from Half Moon Wholesale Lumber Distributors loaded with wood for Mike's Lumber.

The cut has been set out on a siding for the next Southbound Selkirk to Weehawken run (VW-1) to pick up on its way.   About two hours after the cars were set out the thrumming of a GP40/GP30 consist can be heard as it slows at West Mill.

Watch VW-1 arrive in the video below:

VW-1's power leaves the train to pick up the APRR cut

Watch video of the action as the APPR cars are added to the train before VW-1 proceeds to Weehawken in the video below:

That's it for the outbounds in this series.  Come back next weekend as trains from John's and Neal's layouts arrive on the Kings Port Division!
