PCCM 110: Part 3 on the KPD

 Greetings!

Our 110th Penn Central Car Movement series between John's New York Central Train Layout , Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R. , and my Kings Port Division continues!

Yesterday Penn Central train VW-1 from Selkirk stopped at West Mill on its way to Weehawken to pick up a string of cars for Neal's APRR.

Today we'll focus on sending a trainload of cars to John's N.Y.C.T.L.

The action begins at the KP&W's Williams Yard where a transfer for West Mill is being prepared.   It will include six open hoppers loaded with coarse aggregate....

...and two PS2 covered hoppers of fine aggregate for the NYS DOT #10 project...

...PC plug door boxcar #360158 loaded with flour for Hostess and PTTX #91913 is carrying steel slabs for Mid Island Steel.

The Transfer leaves Williams Yard and later arrives at West Mill

The KP&W crew uncouple their caboose from the transfer so their locomotives can pick it up later after completing work at West Mill.

The KP&W will be picking up a string of twelve empty hoppers for the return trip to Williams Yard.

The KP&W F7A and GP9 leave their cut for West Mill behind to pick up the empty hoppers in the yard and then back them into their transfer caboose.

Watch the action in the video below:

After coupling the empty hoppers to their caboose the transfer runs back to Williams Yard.

The last work for the day is to set out the remaining cars that will be picked up by WV-2 which is expected to arrive in an hour and a half.   These cars for the N.Y.C.T.L. include the Early Bird loaded with REVCO kitchen gadgets for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse and the three gondola loads of poles for Lilco.

These cars will be coupled to the cut that was left by the KP&W
which the 8951 moves off the mainline and on to the adjacent siding.

It then pulls the cars from the yard and couples them to the rest waiting for WV-2 on the siding.

The cut for WV-2 on the siding extends nearly the length of the yard

WV-2 arrives!

WV-2's U Boats and GP38-2 make the pick up.  We get a good look at the cars heading to the N.Y.C.T.L. as they roll by.

WV-2's consist idles by WM tower as the connections are checked and the air is pumped to release the brakes prior to departure.

The train to Selkirk receives permission to proceed!

An hour and a half later WV-2 arrives at Selkirk.  As the train rolls by we get another good look at the cars heading to the N.Y.C.T.L.   Its always busy at Selkirk as a train coming of the former Boston & Albany line arrives and a yard switcher shifts some cars around.

The block of cars for Terminal Yard will be placed on an outgoing train along with these three B&M RBLs loaded with Habitant Soup for
Ralph's Grocery Warehouse.

Check out John's blog next weekend as this train arrives on his layout!

    Terminal Yard out...

Nice work getting the PCCM traffic from Williams Yard to West Mill to Selkirk!!! I really like the KP&W - PC interchange at West Mill. Nicely done. WV-2 was a substantial train with both PCCM and non PCCM traffic moving towards Selkirk and an impressive power lash up to boot!! The Selkirk scene puts a nice finish to the outbound moves. Terminal Yard is ready to receive the PCCM traffic forwarded from the KPD!!!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Great job in assembling the freight for WV-2 to Selkirk and adding freight for the NYCTL. The KP&W crew in both Williams Yard and West Mill did a fine job for both railroads. NYC #8951 is a true workhorse and serves your railroad well.

Looking forward to the inbound series! Great job Ralph!!
