Welcome to another "virtual ops" series of moving freight cars seemingly from one layout to the next thanks to photography and matching rolling stock rosters owned by the participants! This is Penn Central Car Moment # 66 (P.C.C.M. 66)
This first installment from the Kings Port Division identifies cars that will be forwarded to John's New York Central Train Layout and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.
Starting with cars for the Atlantic Pacific RR (A.P.R.R.), Kings Port & Western cars that were picked up loaded at Peerless Appliance and Amalgamated Container are shown below at Mayfield Yard.
The cars are transferred to West Mill Yard.
KP&W 644455 and 644455 are full of kitchen appliances from Peerless Appliance for Three Amigos Warehouse.
KP&W 310112 and 30115 are on their way to American Hardware.
Cars for the A.P.R.R. are also being forward by the KP&W from Binghamton, including these three PC RBLs loaded with carton container material for Tropicana from International Paper Co.
...and one empty Corning covered hopper from Corning Glass Co. for Pennsylvania Glass Sand Co.'s Millville Plant in Cumberland, NJ. This nice covered hopper is relatively new to the virtual ops and will be seen on the A.P.R.R. and the N.Y.C.T.L. as well.
Completing the list of cars to be forwarded to Rock Ridge Yard is this white A.P.R.R. RBL #60358 loaded with canned vegetables from Van Winkle Canning for C&P Restaurant Supply.
The cars arrive at West Mill Yard on various transfer runs and are assembled into a train for Rock Ridge Yard.
Watch the morning's activity at West Mill as this train is put together in the video below:
Three TOFC flats at the KP&W's Williams Yard. Two will be loaded and one is empty. These will go to N.Y.C.T.L.'s Terminal Yard
The KP&W sets them out to join B&M #105 on an interchange track with the Penn Central in Kings Port.
Other cars going to the N.Y.C.T.L. include EL #73510 seen below being pulled loaded with bagged cement from Booms Ready Mix
Aging former NYC Pacemaker #174508 has been loaded at Quality Fabrications with sewing machine and wire twister parts for Moore & Co. on the N.Y.C.T.L.
Over at novelty products manufacturer REVCO, former NYC Early Bird Service car #90718 has been loaded with kitchen gadgets ("Turnip Twaddlers" and the like...) for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse.
The car is seen peaking out from behind REVCO before being picked up.
PC 50 ft. plug door #360158 is pulled from Zenith TV with a load of their big console sets for Superior Furniture.
These cars also make their way via transfer runs to West Mill Yard..
..and are lined up for the run to the N.Y.C.T.L.'s Terminal Yard.

Rock Ridge Yard Out!
Nice way to kick off #66! The crew at Rock Ridge yard awaits the freight for its consignees. The video of where the freight cars are headed is a nice touch! Nice to see AP #60358 back in action.

Terminal Yard out...
Well done Ralph!! Nice choice of power with the KP&W SD9, NYC SW9 and run thru LV GP18. Good to see a nice amount of three layout cars in play this round. Video with sound and narration was as Neal noted a nice touch. Empire City eagerly awaits the latest shipment of turnip twaddlers from REVCO!!!
Nice start to the series. For 14 years I serviced a account bordering the Millville yard
ReplyDeleteMilliville, Bridgeton and Vineland are all handled by the WINCHESTER & WESTERN RR. Millville is famous for it's glass producing mills
Several are still open, several are shut down but all are HUGE! The area is surrounded by farms and there's alot of packing houses. There are always alot of short WWRR. covered hoppers, refers, box cars and some tankers. The WWRR. runs alot of old equiment including a SD'9 and a GP-10. I never heard of that one, but it was stenciled on the cab. In the weeds at the engine terminal an old cannibalized F-3 sat. Then on day around 2015 it was gone! ...thanks for the memories!
That is really neat information! I'm glad the virtual ops prompted some good memories of the prototype. You can thank John R. for his research in identifying Millville as a possible location to ship the Corning car.
