P.C.C.M. 66: Third installment on the KPD

Hi all!

Yesterday Penn Central Extra #3003 was dispatched to Weehawken to forward cars southbound to the A.P.R.R.'s Rock Ridge Yard.   Today its time to send a train north toward Selkirk to forward cars to the N.Y.C.T.L.'s Terminal Yard.

This string of four cars for Terminal Yard will later be joined by...

....four more waiting on an interchange track in King Port.

F7A #1805 and GP9 #7085 will power the short train, designated WMV-1 (West Mill to Selkirk) out of West Mill.

Leaving West Mill Yard behind the whining EMDs.

See the action as the F7A/ GP9 consist backs into its train and takes it out of West Mill Yard in the video below.

WMV-1 is seen rolling through the farmland near Marion....

...and passing Hedberg Aggregates at the summit of the Kings Port Division.

The train is later seen disappointing waiting passengers at Kings Port Station who hoped it was the next commuter train.

See a short video of WMV-1 arriving at Kings Port in the video below.

Stopping at Kings Port, the power cuts off the train to pick up the three TOFCs and the B&M RBL waiting on the interchange.

Watch the switching action as the pair of First Generation diesels picks up the cars and adds them to the train.

See WMV-1 hold at Kings Port for a KP&W RDC before getting clearance to depart for Selkirk:

One more bit of work as three cars are set out for the next Weehawken to Selkirk run to take these cars to Elkhart for eventual forwarding to Brian's Ralston Creek R.R..

Three cars including this GERN covered hopper loaded with GERN Cement Flux for GERNs Colorado facility...

GT #516156 empty from Peerless Appliance for Wazee Electric and CN #424077 empty from Canton Box to Rockmount Supply.

The three cars are set out on a convenient siding for WV-5 to pick up later today.

That concludes the outbound moves from the Kings Port Division in this series.  We'll pick up the action again next weekend when cars arrive from the N.Y.C.T.L. and the A.P.R.R.!  Check the virtual ops activity on their blogs as well!
Have a good week!

    Terminal Yard out...

Excellent videos with great sound effects for the F7A and GP9! The EMD whining is a mighty fine whine! Well done Ralph!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

We now know the priorities of the KP&W as holding a freight for a local passenger train is very impressive. Most railroads would put the freight train as a priority due to more profits. Besides, passengers are always waiting and know their trains are never on time.

The video of the F units pulling those cars sounds like it was hauling 100 cars! Very nice work!

  3. I'll say that WMV-1 took more time dropping off cars than expected and was behind schedule Since there were no other sidings for the RDC to hold north of Kings Port the freight had to wait. A lucky day for commuters using the KP&W's single car train!
