P.C.C.M. 68: Part 5 on the KPD

Hey railfans!

Here we are in the 5th installment of P.C.C.M. 68 on the Kings Port Division.   Cars that were seen set out yesterday by the Penn Central at the interchange track in Kings Port are about to be picked up by the Kings Port & Western R.R.

A KP&W crew stops at Ulster Ave to assist with the pick ups and manage street traffic on this busy road.

Meanwhile, in nearby Williams Yard, SD9 #897 gets the call for this job.  The crew boards for the short run to the interchange.

Watch KP&W's SD9 #897 bring cars into Williams Yard in the video below:

The three TOFCs are unloaded at the ramp in Williams Yard...

...while PC 50 ft plug door boxcar #360158 loaded with Superior Furniture for Battaglia's Warehouse and two coil cars for KP Steel are sorted for delivery.

The cars are arranged conveniently for switching in front of, and behind, Williams Yard's old S12 switcher #34 that just seems to keep on running.

Watch the S12 set out cars at Battaglia Bros.Warehouse and KP Steel in the video below (look for a little experimental Windows 10 photo app special effects at the end):

Meanwhile over at West Mill, NYC SW9 #8951 prepares to pull a short local. The NYC hopper is going to Empire Grain while...

...IC car #30130 and NYC Hi Cube # 173861 are heading to Reynolds Beverage Distributors, both loaded with Heilemans Beer.

Watch the short local leave West Mill while two KP&W units waiting to haul a train to Mayfield idle in the background.

Just outside the yard, the switcher parks the covered hopper for  delivery later.  It needs to get on the other side of this car to push it into Empire Grain

Continuing on with the two cars for Reynolds Beverage Distributors, the two car train pulls ahead.

Leaving West Mill full of beer, but its Heilemans from Empire City, not the Schaefer advertised on the billboard next to WM Tower!

Arriving at Reynolds Beverage Distributors

This little business generates a lot of traffic thanks to the thirsty good people of Kings Port!  Heilemans Beer is a popular favorite!

Well now!  I've come to realize that I've  had at least two opportunities in prior posts to show these three gons being forwarded to KP Steel from Williams Yard as part of an intra-layout move for the next P.C.C.M.!   Time to get this done!   You can see Williams Yard's S12 get the job done...finally!

This sets up some rare railfan fun at Ulster Ave as the two short trains cross the street together!   See the video below:

The three empty gondolas are set out at KP Steel.

And the two car loads of beer are set out at Reynolds.

After completing the work at Reynolds, Switcher #8951 continues down the line to Mid River Power to pick up a PC depressed well flat car that delivered a transformer to the power station in a previous P.C.C.M

Heading back to West Mill the PC switcher encounters KP&W S12 #34 again as it also heads back to its home base, running light.

Now back at West Mill and ready to set out the NYC covered hopper at Empire Grain, the switcher and depressed well flat run around the car and pull it to the massive grain elevator across the tracks from West Mill Yard.

Back to the idling KP&W power at West Mill.  The two units in the background wait for PC SD9 #6922 to tack a caboose on the back of a cut of cars for Mayfield before it pulls the cars out for them.

Cars on this train include PC Hi Cube #272242  loaded with electrical equipment for Peerless Appliance,

The PC depressed well flat and PC boxcar #77047 both empty for Amalgamated Container

86 ft Auto Parts car NYC #67086 for ACME Auto Supply

And, three 60 ft auto parts cars also bound for ACME.

After SD9 #6922 pulls the cars out of West Mill Yard for them the two KP&W units leave the engine track and back into their train.

The RS3/GP9 combo prepares to leave West Mill.

 Next stop:  Mayfield Yard!

That concludes this installment!  We'll finish up the action on the KPD for this series tomorrow.  Be sure to check John's New York Central Train Layout  and Neal's Atlantic Pacific R.R.  for their parts of this series!

  1. To: West Mill / Rock Ridge
    From: Terminal Yard

Acknowledge a tremendous amount of virtual ops freight cars delivered and interchanged.

    Terminal Yard out...

Holy smokes Ralph!!! The special effects at Kings Port Steel were fantastic!!! The exhaust from the idling KP&W units was also very well done. I was super impressed with the videos.

I'm also very impressed with the amount of work accomplished by both the KP&W and PC this installment. The action was non stop and the two railroads really got the job done. There were so many excellent moves that each photo and video is a new favorite!

I was wondering where those 3 gons were!

    Well Done!!!!
