PCCM 98: Part 4 on the KPD

 Hello and welcome back!

We started our 98th virtual ops series last weekend between John's New York Central Train Layout and my own Kings Port Division.  The Kings Port Division set out train TY-2 to Terminal Yard on John's layout.  The N.Y.C.T.L., in turn, dispatched train SK-5 to Selkirk with cars for the Kings Port Division.  We'll see those trains arrive at their respective destinations this weekend and follow the car forwarding from there!

Today's installment at begins at Mechanicville, NY where B&M train BM-7 from Boston arrives with three B&M RBLs loaded with cabinets from Yankee Veneers for Zenith TV.

The cars will be put on a transfer run to Selkirk and later be forwarded to West Mill Yard.

Still looking at Mechanicville, shortly after the arrival of BM-7 we see NY-10 from Dewitt Yard, Syracuse headed by F7A-B-B power.

Included on this freight are Dresser Magcobar car NIRX #42868 loaded with Bentonite for a local industry, TPFX #5510 loaded with wood products for Battaglia Brothers Warehouse, and LV #8247 carrying Delco batteries for ACME Auto Parts.  The distinctive orange and white Dresser Magcobar car can be seen coming in on NY-10 to the right in the photo below...

...and later it is seen set out in Mechanicville yard in this photo.

After NY-10's manifest is broken down a BM-17 transfer takes TPFX #5510, LV #8427 and B&M RBLs #105, 109, and 110 to Selkirk.  Look for them passing by Mechanicville's XO tower behind a pair of GP30s in the video below:

The cars from Mechanicville are humped and sorted at Selkirk.  The five car cut for the Kings Port Division is readied for the arrival of PC train SK-5 dispatched from John's Terminal Yard.

Watch SK-5 arrive, have the cars from Mechanicville added to its train, and then depart for Kings Port and West Mill while a coal train preparing to battle the Berkshires waits for permission to leave on the Boston & Albany line.

The train left Selkirk under new power (a GP38/U33C set) and with a new designation as VWm-5.  Watch the train arrive at Kings Port and stop to cut off cars for the KP&W's Williams Yard in the video below:

A cut of cars for Williams Yard is separated from the train in front of the three B&M RBLs for Zenith TV.

After the cut is made the cars for Williams Yard are pulled forward of the Ulster Ave grade crossing and moved over to the next track.   Watch the cut of cars get shoved into Williams Yard in the video below:

After setting the cars out at Williams Yard the Penn Central consist rolls past VWm-5's remaining cars and then returns to them to continue their journey to West Mill.

An hour later the train is seen arriving at West Mill Yard.

That's enough for today!  Come back tomorrow to follow the action at Williams Yard and West Mill as the KP&W and the Penn Central deliver cars to their consignees.

The excellence continues!!! This story line is tight!! My trains really did look great running on your layout!! I really enjoyed seeing the B&M trains, Mechanicville and NY-10 all contribute PCCM freight traffic for interchange. Selkirk looks good did its usual fine job of sorting all the various PCCM cars into a properly blocked train for delivery to the KP&W at Williams Yard and the PC and West Mill. The Williams Yard team track / HVAC loading dock is a nice addition. That big U-Boat with the 7675 was another nice addition. Well done Ralph!! I'm looking forward to Part 2!

    Rock Ridge Yard out!

Great seeing the freight movement at Selkirk Yard to start the inbound series! The hump yard in the background makes the scene very real. Dave’s Diner turns out to be a great railfan area to view trains moving in both directions on the railroad. The train movement was non-stop, no time to ponder any moves!

    Nice work Ralph!
